FIRST: Sorry, no idea why screenshots are HUGE! 😂
So buyer opens return on Sept 10th; does not fit … I immediately send return label:
15 days later; this afternoon I receive “buyer shipped” … okay
FEW HOURS after this notification of shipping I get this message from the buyer:
Umm, what?!
I believe this buyer had until the 25th to ship back and thus the activity today.
I send her a message and screenshots of shipping info I have:
Have never had this issue.
First she says I didn’t send a label (I did) then wants me to “extend” her return time (umm, no) … then buyer states she “accidentally” marked as shipped (it does happen), but which story is it)?!?
What do I even do in this situation?
I’m pretty sure USPS labels are only good for a couple weeks? Can this buyer even open another return when it states shipped?
Thank you for any help or ideas!!!

First you can’t resend a label or extend shipping time, the label is in the buyers email.
Second, if the buyer cancels there are no do overs.

I think buyer gets 35 days to return it from my return which did not get returned.
You have to think about if there is a credit card dispute and what kind of feedback there might be.
Buyer is just lazy...most buyers are not into shipping like us.
Once the hold on funds are gone you should be good.

I thought that up until about a month ago. Buyer ordered in May. Opened a return shortly after. I sent the label the same day, and the buyer had until something like July 8th to return it. The buyer didn't return it, so eBay closed out the return.
Fast-forward 40 days and I get notification from USPS that I have an inbound package from Seattle. I had just sent an order to Seattle the week before, so I'm sitting here thinking that buyer sent their item back without opening a return. Nope, a week later the package arrived and it was my May buyer who had finally sent back his item, well after the return closed. He used the label I had sent him. I noticed it did not have a date printed on it. That is interesting because USPS is not supposed to accept anything with labels that are more than 5 days (?) past the date they were purchased. After thinking about it, I realized that the return label isn't purchased until the buyer uses it, which is why it doesn't have a date on it. It seems there should be some type of expiration date attached to the tracking number. Otherwise, a buyer could open a return, not send the item, then use the label to ship Christmas packages a few months later.
I was charged for the label. I did not issue a refund to the buyer, and they never reached out about it. 🙃

There’s no hold on funds, so all is good there at the moment. 😁 Does not fit or other remorse returns have never held funds.
I did have eBay once tell a buyer after a couple of weeks that the item was not shipped back in time, so they canceled her label and I believe that was on day 15 or so?
Had a return request a few days before this particular buyers where eBay closed the return because item wasn’t returned within given time frame. That item had until the 21st to be returned.
35 days?!? July?!? Wow! That’s a long time! Believe returns I’ve had, either buyer ships asap or never does. Normally (my experience) it’s about 21 ish days the returns will be closed by eBay if not returned?
Just checked a does not fit return I actually received today and buyer has until the Oct 16th to return.

Right, about 3 weeks. My buyer returned it 45 days after the return closed. So technically the labels are still valid. Like you said, eBay may be able to cancel them but it probably just as good if we cancel a label. The label can still be scanned and used.

Buyer closed return this morning and asked me to open a new one. Of course this can not be done and seeing that this buyer seems to be a bit challenged on picking up what I was putting down, I’ve just gone ahead and refunded this buyer. Done and done.
Definitely not worth fighting someone over $20 😂 nor playing that wait and see game!
Thank you for your time, suggestions and help!
