Return - part too heavy for USPS

Help. I took my return box to the post office - was told by clerk that item too heavy for first class service. Now what? Thanks.

No, unfortunately @lestra3588 the clerk is mistaken. The USPS first class RETURN SERVICE label is good for up to 70 pounds and 108 inches

You can see this at the last line ^^ on your return label page.

Thank you @bctk5292  for your pic.  I was looking for one and could not find it - perfect!

Maybe for domestic deliveries in the US...looks like the seller is from China and is probably banking on the buyer's lack of knowledge on how a return process works here.

I am wondering though @lestra3588  what TYPE of return request did you make?

Item not as described.

Did not like.

Did not fit

Changed my mind

The type of return request that you make plays heavily on the outcome of the return case.  We need to know these facts so that we can best help you.  Please let us know.

Re: Return - part too heavy for USPS

I did print the correct label as per ebay instructions. How do I argue my case with a post-office clerk?

Re: Return - part too heavy for USPS

I am returning the package to an address in California. From there I suppose it will be sent to China. The vendor offered to send me another part rather than having me return this one and refunding the money. Oh boy!!!

Ship it in one of the other 100 or so ways.

@lestra3588

Oh...I would request a refund instead.  They can take their time on the slow boat from China (being held up at L.A.'s port to boot) and your time frame will run out on your money back guarantee.

Tell them that you are sending the item back and that you want them to refund you.  When that happens you can re-order the item from them.

Oh!  And since it is going to a Cali address, your label should have in the area where a stamp would be:

"NO POSTAGE NECESSARY IF MAILED IN THE UNITED STATES"

Re: Return - part too heavy for USPS

The first class label I have printed out says nothing about 70 LBS. Thank you for sending a picture of a label,

Was there on option for defective part? tHE VENDOR HAS COMMUNICATED WITH ME.  Sorry - I type poorly. That is part of my frustration

Re: Return - part too heavy for USPS

I have requested a refund, and I am trying to ship the part back to them as my honest part of the deal. It is a defective part that I am shipping back to them for a refund. Do vendors just issue refunds, without getting the part back?

Sometimes.  It is at the discretion of the seller if they want to do that.  If they want the part back, they need to pay for the return of the item IF THE ITEM'S RETURN WAS NOT AS DESCRIBED which is why I am asking you what TYPE of return request did you make?  There are many types:

Was there on option for defective part?   I am a bit surprised by this statement from above.  Can you tell us under what reason from the above did you make your return request under?  I am assuming that you made the correct return request IF that seller gave you a return label to ship it back to Cali.

Re: Return - part too heavy for USPS

Thank you so much for your help. The reason I gave was it was defective. It didn't work. I really appreciate your assistance here. It may seem like chump change to some, but it's a good-sized purchase for me, besides the fact that I don't have a working car right now. Thank you.

I went through ebay's process for getting a return label. But that return label, first class package return service, does not say anything about the 70 pound allowance. So perhaps the clerk at the post office was just not aware? The label does say eBay in a small part of the label.

Re: Return - part too heavy for USPS

Hi Rockstar. The label does say that there's no postage required, so it could just be the kind of ignorant clerk at the post office who told me that it had to weigh 13 ounces or under in order to go first class. But there is nothing printed on that label that says there is a 70 pound allowance. How do I argue with the United states post office? Thank you. You have talked me off the ledge this afternoon.

@lestra3588

I still say drop it in the bin. And I'll add that you don't want to agree to a replacement over a return and full refund.

@lestra3588

You are welcome.  Perfect. I am happy to know that the reason for return was defective.  That was the correct thing to put.

Go to the PO (NOT tomorrow...it's Veteran's Day and the PO will be closed) on Friday if you can, stand in line, present that package AGAIN.  If the clerk says anything about first class, calmly point out the "NO POSTAGE NECESSARY IF MAILED IN THE UNITED STATES" part of the label and say that any and all postage due is to be paid by the receiving party at the other end.  That should take care of that situation...all they need to do is scan the tracking number and send it.

The only reason why I personally would not just drop it in the bin is because I would want my reciept proving that I sent the item back.

Everything should work out for you just fine.  Get your money back THEN re-order the part.  Do NOT accept the ole "we will replace it" game.  NO.  Return - refund - re-order - in that sequence.

Agreed and agreed. If @lestra3588 takes this advice, @lestra3588 is gold. 😉
