Return package seems lost in the post

Hi. I recently bought a graphics card from a seller which arrived damaged. We arranged a return but the package seems to have been lost in the ether. Royal Mail 48h delivery, posted Wednesday 30th March. It was listed as out for delivery Friday the 1st but nothing ever came of it and there've been no updates since.

My question is, who's responsibility is it to chase up the package, and presumably claim compensation if it's gone missing? The seller has asked me to but I'm not 100% sure that's right. I used the return label eBay provided for the return, which presumably the seller paid for. Ordinarily I'd probably just write the thing off but we're talking £250 here and I'd really rather get that back.

The person who bought the label, the seller, is responsible. If they were smart they would be contacting the mail service to try to find their package.

No, you do not chase it down. Since it was an eBay return label @ultimatedeathray you'll get the refund even if the return is never delivered. eBay says:

When a buyer returns an item and it doesn't show delivered within the specified timeframe then we will look at three possible situations to determine the outcome.

1. If the buyer used an eBay return label, we will close the case in the buyers favor, regardless who paid for the return label.

2. If the buyer used their own label and they paid for it themselves, we will close the case in the sellers favor.

3. If the seller sent the buyer a label and they paid for it, we will close the case in the buyers favor.

Re: Return package seems lost in the post

You're at clear no matter if the package is lost or delivered. Tracking shows item was shipped and accepted by delivery service. If you want to chase the package, you can, but it wouldn't change the case outcome. You will be refunded if package deemed to be lost.

It is very unfortunate that eBay doesn't insure the return packages. Insurance is an option not encouraged by eBay. Insurance cost on packages purchased in eBay  platform is double amount of similar and other selling platforms.

Here, we have a $325 item, Out for Delivery, not delivered for past 7 days and nothing Buyer or Seller could do. According to rules, Buyer will be refunded which is fair. But, how about Seller? Seller will lose money and item plus twice shipping costs. Calling eBay will have no results. And the expense will become cost of doing business on eBay. It shouldn't be this way. This is wrong!

Insurance should be available and encouraged on eBay platform. eBay needs to provide compatible pricing on insurance coverage for their Return Process. If they're not, Process lacks security.

It's fair to say: above case is a clear indication of eBay's Return Process not being safe for Sellers.  Seller's investments aren't secured by process.

Many Sellers here on eBay, purchase their own return label. Many others don't insure their packages. Carelessness is upon eBay members whom lose money.
