I had a buyer request a return last night (7/20), about 10:00 pm Pacific time. No problem...I accept returns. But I had to respond by today (7/21), yet the buyer has 3 weeks to return the item. Did they change the time frames? I thought we had 3 days to respond to a return request. Can anyone point me to the Ebay help/handbook page with the time frames on returns? Thanks!

That sounds strange, but I would stick to the timeframe given, even if it is a glitch of sorts, nothing can be gained by testing it out LOL

You had 3 business days -- today, Friday, and Monday -- to respond to the return request. What exactly @sunset-painter did that eBay message say?
The 15 business days the buyer has to print and mail the return label began in 2020, and it is still 15 business days now.

It said the return was opened on 7-20-2022 and I had until 7-21-2022 to respond. I knew about the longer time the buyer had to return, but was a little miffed about only having one day to respond. What if I was out of town or something?

I agree that something weird is going on with returns. I go an eBay message for a return with the wording "we'd previously notified you of a return", but it was my only message.

Returns are screwed up, I had a day to respond to my last return and the buyer has more than 15 days because I sent the shipping label July 17th and they have until August 8th to ship it back. I also received a message saying we previously contacted you about a return but to my knowledge there was no return opened, then I got another saying the buyer escalated the case and it was closed due to not returning the item. Unless they opened a case and immediately asked eBay to step in which I don't think they could, something was wrong.

Also worth noting, I have changed returns to auto accept because of these issues, I'm afraid I may not be notified or may accidentally miss my one day response time on a weekend or something and that's potentially VERY costly.

I know about the 15 days for the buyer to return, but why did I only get 1 day to respond to the request?

Check your returns list to see when this return request actually started.

What likely happened @sunset-painter is that it began on 7/18, but eBay didn't tell you until 7/20.

@jahood1984 Mine was an auto accept, so you have every right to be concerned,.

Dang. I have noticed I am not being notified I have messages like normal, I'll check them randomly and find 3 messages I was never told I had....
