Seller won and paid for 7 pieces of cambridge cleo pink elegant glass on October 1st. Item was shipped promptly and received by seller. 13 days letter seller is requesting a full refund, saying one item of the 7 was damaged. They paid a total of $31 including shipping for the listing. I know the item was not damaged when chipped, and I am an experienced glass shipper and its unlikely it became damaged in transit. In good faith I offerred the buyer a partial refund of $7, which they refused. I thought that was more than fair, as it wasn't a complete set they bought, it was 3 saucers, 3 cups, and a platter. Theyre saying one cup was chipped. My problem is they had the item almost 2 weeks before claiming damage, I ferl it was likely damaged then. If I don't give a full refund and ebay steps in will they likely rule in their favor? And if they do will I still have the opportunity to have the items returned to me? I feel like they're trying to get a full refund, and then hope that I won't pay the $11 to have it shipped back to me since it was such a low dollar amount sale to begin with, and theyll get to keep the glass too. My glass sales are only 25 sold items, as i am anew seller, but no issues with the other items. Prior to this I've sold glass for years on other platforms, with no damages ever.

Challenge the Buyer to return the items in one piece. Send them an insured label. I bet, You'll receive damaged glass. It's been two weeks. Hope Buyer tossed the package, Lord have Mercy
You should know; Buyer has to return items as sent. Any damage will be %50 of the sale to Seller. It's hard to prove damage for returned items but you need to give it your best shot with excellent pictures. I mean; every corner exposed and of course the obvious broken dishes. Who knows, if not marked 'Fragile', what else could happen!?
Give it a shot,
you have nothing to lose

According to eBay policies, a seller can only deduct up to 50% if:
The seller does neither, so they will have to refund 100% once the items are returned ... or refund 100% without requiring a return. Pictures or no pictures, there are no other options for this seller.

If the buyer has opened up a Money Back Guarantee claim, then these are your two least painful choices:
Your hope with #2 is that the buyer doesn't ship the item back, which I've found happens in about 5-10% of return situations ... but ... of course ... you have to pay for return shipping.
Since this is a Money Back Guarantee claim AND you are not a Top Rated Seller, then you do not have options to protest this return, even if the buyer chipped the glassware ... none of us knows if the item was damaged by the customer or damaged in transit, so it is just the word of the buyer.
You do have a third option. Should you decide to battle the customer and refuse to refund, eBay may likely get involved and when this happens (a) eBay will force refund 100% of the original price and shipping, (b) eBay will not refund the selling fees that you paid, (c) the buyer may not be required to return the item because you have no returns, and (d) eBay will give you a nasty seller defect -- too many of these and selling gets more expensive and you may be banned from selling on eBay.

Thank you. Turns out the buyer is an eBay partner for Japan sales. So I won't win, sounds like ebay targets new sellers, gets a refund, keeps the glasd and sells it in Japan. What a racket, and since my sales are small figures I wont apend the money to get it back. So I sent a return label and closed all my listings. This was just a trial run, I actually have $1000s in sales on other platforms. Think I'll stick to the others. I appreciate the advice.

The buyer was "ship-airlines" an allied partner of ebay since 2017, with 25,000 positive reviews and not one negative. Yeah, right. Dine with selling glass on ebay, especially since the train wreck they made out of glass categories last week.

I've dealt with these people many times, and only had an issue one time where 2 pieces were damaged and I sent a partial refund.
American glass, especially Depression and Fire King glass is very popular in Japan, I just sold 6 McDonald's, Fire King, coffee cups to Japan for $65, that buyer paid $100 total.
I would rather keep them as a potential future customer and eat the $7.00. I also over wrap everything going overseas including to the Ebay GSP in Kentucky.

25,000 positive reviews and not one negative. Yeah, right. categories last week.
Sellers who only "won and paid for 7 pieces" and other auctions cannot get any negatives: They will always have 100% positive feedback because they never sell.
And "damaged when chipped" is definitely damaged, because a chip is damage, obviously.
But you @lah-6038 accept the return and issue a return shipping label probably cuz shop airlines most likely will never return for a refund, it's not what they do.

That was a typo. It was supposed to say damaged when shipped lol.

I offerred a partial refund, they refused. I know it's only $20, I just feel like im being scammed I guess. I overwrap everything too. Ive shipped hundreds of pieces of glass and the only one that ever arrived damaged was the first one I shipped, years ago. It's just really irritating they're doing this 2 weeks later over $13, which is what they would have paid had they accepted the partial refund. I'm going to have them return it. Well see if they do.

How do I offer shipping to japan? Is it complicated?
10-21-2021 12:50 PM
I used the Ebay Global Shipping program, I just ship to Lexington, Ky, 2 days shipping, and they handle all the rest, I only pay shipping to them too.
As far as your buyer, I have dealt with them dozens of times and just had one box that had 2 damaged items, they accepted a $7 partial refund, very pleasant to deal with, there are others that do the same thing, they make items cheaper for buyers in Japan compared to using other delivery options.
