I sold some (new) car seat adapters for a travel system and buyer says he wants to return them as they don’t fit
he has sent photos showing 2 different types and saying the bigger ones are mine and don’t fit - the smaller ones are his and they fit
purchase was made on 20.12.2021
so almost 2 months have passed.
I have never had a return request I don’t know what to do..
Id be out of pocket almost £15 if I accept (postage and the eBay FVF) … so this all amounts almost half price of the actual item
absolutely mad..
please advise a very lost fellow seller

eBay's return is 30 days.
They have to file with Paypal which is 6 months.
Ignore them.

What if they open a PayPal case and get a refund that way? Can they get any money from me too? I mean PayPal?
im scared they will leave a negative feedback
also on eBay it says it could negatively impact me as a seller or something
jesus… I’m so angry at this

The MBG on Ebay is only good for 30 days, so it's probably expired.
If they paid with Pay Pal, they have 180 days to file a claim.
If they file a claim with their credit card, you'll probably loose the item and payment.

Ok so how does a PayPal dispute work?
they allow them a refund and what happens to me? As In how can they get money from me?
(to be honest I don’t care if paypal refunds them as long as I don’t have to do all that and and relist and be out of pocket along the way etc)

If they go to Pay Pal, Ebay will pull the funds from your account and send it to them.

Thanks for all the replies
I spoke to eBay (on the phone)
The CS agent advised that item is no longer covered by the EMBG as it’s been more than 30 days.
She also told me they haven’t paid through PayPal but with a Visa card so it’s unlikely a PayPal dispute would be opened.
So she guided me how to close the case and what to write in the box when I denied the return and said case cannot be reopened if he tries and a new one can’t be opened too.

At this point they have lost their ability to return on eBay. This is a remorse return. If you even considered it they would have to pay for the return shipping and if they paid shipping separately that expense can be deducted from any refund. eBay does credit Final value fees, but I'm not certain that would be true from 2 months ago. I think you need to explain to them that it is way past the return window and that they would have to incur any all return expenses.

You've done everything right.
At this point, all they can do is a credit card chargeback. You have no control over that. If they do, input the tracking number and hope for the best.

eBay return policies no longer apply as 30 days return period has expired.
Unfortunately if your buyer is determined to get his money back then he has the option of opening a charge back claim with his credit card and most he will be required to do is to send the item back ( Postage paid by him) literally no questions asked by his credit card issuer and he will get his money back which will be total he paid including any postage charges you may have charged to send the item.
I am a seller and if I was faced with this situation then I would send a message to buyer advising him that return period has expired and that if items are unused and in same condition as supplied then as a gesture of goodwill you will allow him to send the item back ( Postage paid by him) using Royal mail's tracked or signed for service and on receipt of returned item you would issue a refund for the item price that he paid minus original postage that you paid to send the item and eBay's fees.
I would not accept the return request that he has opened on eBay or respond to this till he comes back to you and irrespective of his answer to your message I would decline the return request at a later date.
If you issue a full refund then eBay will give you FVF back ( Less 30 pence) and if you issue a partial refund then these FVF are not given back.
In my experience charge back claims are messy and more than likely to go against seller and should be avoided at all cost.
Hope this helps.

I have the same issue, can you tell me what she said to write and close the case?

paypal is 180 days and chargebacks can run even longer
on ebay 60 days is the timeout for feedback

IM SORRY WHAT!??
EBAY SELLERS CAN HAVE LITERAL THEFT COMMITTED AGAINST THEM?
'If they file a claim with their credit card, you'll probably loose the item and payment.'
THAT'S QUITE LITERALLY AN ILLEGAL THEFT. THERE IS NO RIGHT OR LEGALITY IN ANY BUYER EVER DOING THAT.

Perhaps, but that’s exactly what most credit card companies allow buyers to do … and eBay cannot stop it.
BTW, do you realize that you you’re replying to a two-year-old thread?
