Do I have to return an item after the buyer said that he purchased a similar item somewhere else? I didn't see anything about this posted but I sold a V1 nintendo switch with all its peripherals and im afraid of receiving a different version or a broken switch back.

No, with your no return policy, that is one of the few reasons for you to be able to deny the return.

Wrong question.
Even if you have a No Returns policy, you cannot have a No REFUNDS policy.
So your choices are to have the unhappy customer return the item for a refund or allow the customer to keep the the item and refund.
If the customer does not return the item voluntarily, you can ask that they open a Not As Described claim. EBay will then help you send them a Return Shipping Label.
A scammer will be loathe to get eBay involved, so that's a little tiny protection for you.
No return-> no refund.
im afraid of receiving a different version or a broken switch back.
It may be the same switch which you did not describe/pack properly. It may be the same switch and in perfect condition.
Refund, redescribe, relist, resell.
It may be a broken switch.
Appeal the refund to eBay.
And remember , in addition to eBay the customer also has access to the chargeback program of the credit card they really paid with.

Has the buyer opened an actual return case?
Or is this via eBay messages?

@electri9523 You'll have to if they open a not as described case, and you'll also pay the return shipping fee if they do that.

It all depends on if the buyer filed for a return through Ebay and what reason they select as the reason for the return.

So they said,
"Hi, I’m very sorry for the inconvenience, but I need to cancel this order. I bought a Switch last night after waiting a few hours for this offer to be accepted."
Is there any reason why he didn't cancel the offer right after buying the other Switch? He said, "If I receive the item, I may have to return it through eBay."

So they haven't received it yet?
It sounds like your buyer might be telling the truth and just impatient.
Have you shipped it already?
ETA: That sold today.. If you haven't shipped it, cancel the order at buyers request.
That will refund the buyer and you'll get your fees back, Relist and sell again.

I shipped it 30-40 mins after accepting the offer since I live so close to the post office. I think he might've forgot about his ebay offer.

It sold by auction not an offer right? Nvm it says One Bid but then says it sold as a Buy It Now.
And you're sure you got paid? eBay said ok to ship?
I would agree to the return. If you don't he will find a way to return it anyway by claiming issues with it etc..
You could do a recall on the package. There's a fee involved but at least you know you would get your item back to resell.
I'm sorry it worked out this way but forcing a buyer to keep an item seldom works out well for the seller.

The money is in hold, then it gave me the option to print the shipping label- I did all that then shipped it out. I messaged him saying Ill refund him after receiving the item in its original condition.
Also just curious, who pays the return shipping fee in this type of situation?

In this situation the buyer should pay.
