I recently had a problem and got screwed out of $70 by ebay. This is a comment about Ebay, not an attempt to recover $70. Ebay has revised its software to eliminate any possibility for contact with a customer on a situation that Ebay did not anticipate. I had a purchased item that failed in its first usage. The item, a fishing reel handle, had been purchased several months before its usage. (I had purchased a few of these and others worked well.) I sent a picture of the failure to the vendor and he agreed to make restitution. I thought he would send an entire replacement but he sent parts and instructions on how to repair. The parts did not fit together properly. On further complaint he agreed to a cash refund for the entire unit. In something of a rant he said it was not his fault but rather a defective batch of Loctite that caused the failure. He then would not send the RMA and return address for the item. (Yes, he is a real piece of work.) I could find no avenue for getting Ebay to help. All efforts to do this failed. All! It is possible that this is some failure in Ebay software. It is also possible that it is deliberate as now Ebay needs fewer humans.
As an aside, for this level of service and lack-of-integrity one is much better off using Temu or AliExpress which have not cut off all avenues to human contact. Yes they are awkward and prone to failure; but they exist. I now avoid Ebay whenever possible. I had been a satisfied customer for decades.

You purchased an item and waited several months before using it?
eBay’s Money back guarantee is for up to 30 days post delivery. Once 30days have past, eBay can no longer help.
You waited too long and it’s eBay’s fault? Nope…it’s yours.
You only option to recover your money is through your credit card or PayPal which ever way you paid.

In most cases, not much eBay can do for you if it has past 30 days. Personally, if I were in your shoes, I would go to my funding source for a charge back. Unless you are past that time window, as well.

I agree, but what do I do with the snowmobile I bought last May when there won't be enough snow to test it until November?

If you have an issue take it to a mechanic that fixes those.
