Hello there, well my problem is I placed and order for a book, but then later I realized the book being sold is damaged. So i sent a message to the seller to attempt to cancel the transaction but it seems he already labeled the item as 'shipped' and the listing also says returns not accepted. I know i should have payed more attention to the description but i would like to know what my options are

You could still request a Return after you bought it, but the seller doesn't have to accept remorse returns. So... how about gifting the book or listing it for sale here?

amazon allows you some time after you order something to cancel it, i thought i could do that in eBay

I always find it a bad choice for a seller to insist on shipping an item the buyer has told them they no longer want, and it hasn't left the seller's possession. But some people have to be in control of everything. If seller won't cancel the transaction and they did list it correctly identifying the damages, then you are limited in options. Perhaps you will still enjoy the book, unless you wanted it as a collectible. You can always pay to return the book as it was your error in reading the description. You can turn around and sell it on here, make back your money or even make a profit. At the end of the day, it's just a book, and a good lesson on reading the entire listing prior to hitting that purchase button. Best of luck to you....

Amazon controls the shipping and could stop the process.
Ebay does not ship items for sellers.
If the seller shipped the item then why should the selelr be out the product and the money?

The only thing to do is accept the package and then keep it, sell it, donate it or toss it. Learn by this mistake so that you do not do it again. I made many many mistakes when I first started on Ebay in 1998 (different ID). All of those "mistakes" were later sold under my 2nd Ebay ID. Some sold for great money too. I never stiffed a seller or returned an item that I bought in error or failed to read the description.
