I accidentally sent buyer the wrong item. I first said i would EMAIL a "prepaid" label and was told he was "unable" to print it... so I told buyer i would send label in envelope with CORRECT item and asked for original item to be sent back... It took longer for a reply email to show up, but i got a confirmation and it gave me pause, making me think maybe i should request he go through a "proper" return request... but i went ahead and paid for and printed the label, and packed up the item... around Midnight i received an email stating he is UNABLE to return the original item due to the fact his wife through it and the box away, but it was, of course, MY FAULT for sending the wrong item in the first place.
I am NOT sending the replacement item. And i am NOT refunding his money until i get that item back.
How do i get Ebay to help me???
Can i report this buyer?
Is there any way i can keep my item AND my money WITHOUT ebay taking it from me???

Ebay won't help you because this is a problem you created by your mistake.
It's too bad you got a jerk of a buyer but there's no way to force the buyer to return the item sent in error.
ETA: Block the crook!

ETA: Block the crook!
Can i do that?? If i have a transaction with him?

You can block him, preventing future transactions.
Blocking a person (whether you've had a transaction or not) does not stop them from messaging you. It may put obstacles in their way, but they can always message you.
Also doesn't stop a previous buyer from opening a case.

Don't send him anything else. He has already proven he is not reputable. The only thing he can do is file a "not as described" case against you to get his money back. You have the tracking number, which is proof you sent him something. So, in his complaint against you, you can require the return of the item you sent. Then you can refund him after he sends the item back to you. Good luck.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to force them to return the item. You sent them an item to their name and address.
I hope the wrong item was not a high priced one 😞

I also had this very unfortunate thing happen. Due to a mistake that I cannot explain, I sent a wrong item to a buyer, that was worth around $100.00. The buyer only paid around $35, which is what the item they were supposed to get was worth. I've sold MANY items on Ebay and this is the only error of this kind I have ever made. I have a 100% positive rating and try to be the best seller I can,
I have messaged this buyer 3 times, asking them to please send this back and I'll get them their correct item. and I am (of course) willing to pay for postage, etc, but they seem to be "ghosting" me. Very unscrupulous- (Please Note- the buyer is carrying out this "ghosting" and keeping the items they didnt pay for ....at Christmas Time)
This has been a very negative experience for me, and I deeply regret my error...I have strongly learned from this organizational error. But I'm trying to remedy this. I've been giving them the benefit of the doubt, (maybe they're out of town) but at this point it's been a week.
I will block the buyer, but do you think it's worth also giving them a negative feedback? Ebay is supposed to be a positive and respectful community of buyers and sellers. I already admit that this VERY regrettable shipping error was mine, and I've already suffered headaches and stress over this error. But I was hopeful to try to get the buyer to respond and send back. So far they have not responded. What is the best path to take on this?

Sellers can’t leave negative feedback for buyers.

Well unless they return it, there is nothing you can do. Buyer can file an item not described case and get a refund but there is no such thing for a seller. There is no I sent the wrong item and want it back case a seller can file.

If you expect any/want any communication from this buyer DO NOT BLOCK the buyer ID.
Current policy change by eBay also results in a "communication from the buyer block" when you block an ID from purchasing.

Thank you for this info..helpful to know.
Since there is no way to know if the "buyer" has read my messages in this instance, I cannot 100% know if they are aware that I know what they did, or not. I am not some big (wealthy) warehouse/company selling things, that might not notice that this happened. I'm just one guy selling vinyl records trying to raise some money, who sadly made a mistake.
However, I have proof that the package was delivered to this person's home on Dec 27th..It's now January 5th, and they have not responded to 3 messages, so their intention to take advantage of this situation SEEMS clear 😞
All I can do at this point is pray that somehow this person will have a conscience, but human beings will do what they will do. I learned a painful lesson on "triple checking" any mailing labels when selling multiple items at the same time. But, I'll just need to move forward.
What is a reasonable time to wait to hear from this person? It is pretty awkward to have this individual just sitting there on EBAY, unblocked, while they seem to be taking advantage of this situation, and Ebay's rules, and therefore taken advantage of me the seller, in a pretty low manner.

This is true? Why is this?

It has been against eBay policy to leave negative feedback (or a positive feedback with negative comments) for a buyer for over 10
years now.
As to the reason why, it was grossly misused by sellers and created bad experiences for buyers who might discontinue using eBay as a result.
