I had a buyer open a return saying item not as described. No big deal I accepted it and sent a return label immediately. It has now been 3 weeks and buyer has not returned the item and hasn’t responded to a message. I thought by now it would automatically close itself since it’s now well past the date of when they were supposed to ship it back. Is this something I have to call about or will it do no good?

Don't message them or call ebay.
Just let the thing time out, keep your head down and stay quiet.

You can't call to have a case closed anymore, just have to wait until they decide to close it.

Appreciate the replys. I’ve never had someone not send something back before with this system. I don’t understand how 2 weeks isn’t enough time for someone to return an item but it is what it is I guess.

With Covid, they are allowing buyers a lot more time to return items.

In the 2020 Spring Seller Update, eBay gave
10 business days to mail the return label,
5 business days to scan the label, and
2 business days to refund,
the same as it is today.
Then on March 25, 2020 eBay went to
21 business days to mail the return label,
15 business days to scan the label, and
5 business days to refund.
But on July 1, 2020 over a year ago, since the pandemic had already ended

eBay went back to
10 business days to mail the return label,
5 business days to scan the label, and
2 business days to refund,
which is how it is today as @kensgiftshop has explained.
