So i sold a fuel line for 265$. The originals are very hard to find and i bought the last ones from gm. A buyer returned. They said they did not like it. I asked why? they told me they ordered the wrong side. I said fine. Ill refund when i get it. Mailman handed it to me, i opened it and it was a cheaper aftermarket part. It was actually still in the box from where they bought it and the wtapping and part number on it. I sat down went to ebay returns and said there was a problem. I sent photos and description of the problem to ebay. I went to my email and exactly one minute i had two emails. One said my money was on hold due to a dispute and the other said the item showed returned and a refund had been issued. I went to my bank, money already out all within 5 minutes.
I then get a bot email saying they are looking into it blah blah. There was no way they could have even read my email in the minute after i sent it. And i thought once an item was returned i had 48 hours to decide to issue a refund or not. I called the buyer who was a business and they said they thought they sent the one they bought from me back. But since they had their refund they were pretty much out of it. Ebay sent me some document to sign which i have . this just seems wrong that they refunded so fast. So do i just need to figure that anything sold i may have to give the money back no matter what?

It sounds like at least they are considering what you have to say. If buyer has done this with other items maybe other sellers have also complained and eBay is starting to see a pattern with this buyer. Keep an eye on the buyer and see if their account gets canceled in the near future.

Yes, pretty much.
If they filed a remorse return, you could have deducted up to 50% of the refund since they shipped back a different item.

Well thanks for letting me know. I guess with so many other options after 23 years on ebay its time to retire.

Pretty much, but occasionally a seller is able to get the decision reversed. Since eBay sent you a document to sign, maybe they are considering reimbursing you. What did the document say and ask from you?
Sometime the package details is enough to get the decision reverse. Details that show the return item was not possible to be the same item due to the size and weigh of package being way under what was sent.

Its a sworn statement i guess you would call it. the returned item was the same size and shape. Just the difference between a usa made original GEneral Motors and a made in china knock off.

Go ahead and fill it out and return it and see what happens.
There's been a few other sellers ask to fill one out.

Update. Ebay did provide me with a refund. I even offered to offset some of the money by accepting tge wrong item as partial refund. Not sure if its the 5-6000 transactions without any problems or they just did the right thing but they did issue a refund. I think they snoukd look into hiw they issued a refund to the buyer within minutes of the post office scan showing i had the item back.

Glad that worked out for you. It is nice to hear when someone is able to reverse a scam.
