Closed a return! Trying to reopen to change description, unable to return it now?

I bought an HP laptop for college. The item was reported as delivered on April 15 (a Friday). Although my rental office is the one that collects the packages, the person working there said they were closed on Friday.

A couple of months ago, my package was stolen, and I was able to retrieve a picture from the person who took a picture after dropping the item, realizing that my neighbor had stolen it. But, this time there is no delivery picture. I also had my package stolen a couple months back as well, and unsure if this item was picked up by someone else as well. Anyways, it just says the package was signed for using my first initial and last name — but I did not sign for it. No family member was at home at that time besides my brother.

FedEx only shows that it was “signed,” but there’s no actual image of a signature. I was also home all day, constantly checking the rental office, but it was closed and I never saw any packages sitting at the rental office neither at the front of my apartment.

Now that I can’t find the package and the return is closed(due to me thinking I can changed the description just like Amazon), am I completely out of luck? I’ve contacted the seller, hoping I can reopen the return and locate the package somehow. I also opened a claim with FedEx.

Is there anything else I should be doing?

If you used a credit card to pay (the safest and most normal way) you can open a dispute (aka Chargeback) with your credit card issuer.

I would call FedEx and get the information on the exact address to which it was delivered.

Make sure you're not a victim of a scam and then go from there..

I used a debit card, but is there a way I can still do  a charged back regardless after not receiving and be able to win the case to get me full refund?

I don’t be the item is a scam, but they do have almost 200k sold items with 98.5% positive feedback. I also call FedEx and I can get a real person on the phone. I checked back on eBay and it’s the same address that I always been using. On the FedEx website it says “obtain proof of delivery,” and there’s no actual picture.

If the package was stolen, that's not the seller's fault.

You can't get refunded for that.

Does FedEx tracking prove it was delivered to your address?

There is a way to get a human on the phone at FedEx but it may take some doing.

I would find out the GPS of the delivery. just to make sure it was actually delivered to your address.

You need to find out if the package was delivered to your address or not.

Contact the carrier and see what you can find out.

If they say it was shipped to a different address, have them send you a letter stating that.

Then you can contact your bank and see if they can help.

If it was delivered to your address, then stolen, that's not the sellers fault and they shouldn't have to refund.

Have a great day.

If you are having a few problems with stolen packages your place may not be considered safe for delivery and you may need to consider a postal box or somewhere else. I don't know if this was shipped in the box with the HP logo visible or not, but if it was that can be problematic.

Why were you trying to return something you never got? What did you put in the return for the reason?

If anyone gets paid from a missing item claim with FedEx it will usually be the sender and not you.

Thanks for your response again! I was actually able to get a person on a phone(you’re correct) I ended up going to the FedEx in-person. They’re doing some sort of investigation, hopefully I get a response sooner. I told them that it was an urgent matter since it’s a laptop needed for school. Well, the tracking only says my city and my zip, but…doesn’t further provide the exact location. I don’t know how to find where it was exactly delivered maybe you can tell me further. I know it wasn’t the seller’s fault. I can also see where it says the weight of the item, which more so tells me there is an actual laptop that was delivered. But my main thing that I’m trying to get the seller to understand is that I closed the return to change the description or subject not realizing that once you close it, it won’t reopen. Now thinking it again, returning a laptop that wasn’t receive in the first place doesn’t make sense after all 😞

Well it's both good and bad news.

Since it seems the weight was correct and the seller has decent sales & feedback,  the good news is your eBay seller likely did indeed send it and it's not a scam.

The bad news for you is; the seller is not liable once the package is delivered.

So even if you could open a different claim, there is no claim for refund to open.

I'm really sorry.. It's looking like somebody at your complex took that laptop.

FedEx should be able to give you the GPS location to that delivery. You can use your phone (download an APP) to get your GPS location of your complex. That will tell you if it was stolen from there.

Once FedEx investigation is finished; Perhaps you will have a claim against somebody in the rental office. File a police report, I would.

I'm very sorry..

With your history of package theft, may I suggest either a PO box OR have the carrier hold your packages for pickup.

They won't tell you the address if it was shipped to a different address.

They can tell you if it was addressed to you or another address.

Since you closed the case, there's nothing else you can do through Ebay, you need to work with FedEx and see what you can find out.

Have a great day.

Thanks for your response. I later on changed my mind about the item, but it was too late to cancel since it was in transit. Realizing that I will be doing more heavy work on that laptop. I wanted to change the laptop to a different brand and for my higher specs. I put “changed my mind or didn’t like it.” I decided to return it because I know the return process will take a while. I did return it a day after the delivery. The rental office was close, and I was still assuming that they had it, but they didn’t. The item was delivered, but wasn’t missing through the transit. I now fully understand that it wasn’t the sellers fault, but was thinking that the seller could help in some fashion. I’m now working with the carrier to hopefully get a refund or finding the missing laptop someway.

Hopefully, my message is concise and understandable.

Thanks for all your response! I’m definitely thinking the same. It was an indirect signature require, so this makes it further confusing. The deliver who delivered the item use my first initial and my last name and dropped it off somewhere, and was most likely pickup by someone else. This definitely was a lesson learn as this is starting to keep happening to me, which this was the reason why I haven’t bought any thing in MONTHS. Once again, thanks for your replies and everyone else as well, it truly helped on the investigating part and my own confusion.
