So a buyer just submitted a return item notice on a Thomas the train I had sold them, saying the reason was because they ordered it by mistake. I declined the return because they received the item April 1st and just submitted the return notice today May 24th, that’s over 50 days. Just curious what happens now, after I declined the return.
thanks

They go to their credit card or PayPal and get a refund

With paypal they will have to pay it's return shipping. That goes for most credit cards too. Do not refund until you receive it back. Many buyers never get around to sending items back. So, you might get lucky.

Nothing. Unless the buyer decides to file a false claim with their financial institution citing something like unauthorized transaction or item not described. Since you have a message from the buyer confirming this is a remorse return, purchased in error, that would work in your favor. Come back here if the buyer files a claim.

Just want to tell you that don't refund to buyer until you receive your item.

This happened to me recently. buyer opened a remorse return on ebay. I denied it and later on they opened a dispute with their bank claiming (item not as described) and somehow won even though they lied and changed the reason just to get a refund. eBay's seller protections are non existent even though i provided more than enough proof and there is more than enough evidence that the buyer changed their reason.

On ebay? Nothing.
They still have 5 days to leave feedback, though it should be removed automatically.

eBay's return policy is 30 days .
That has passed therefore as per eBay's policy you are not obliged to accept this return.
Banks, PayPal ,Credit card have different rules /laws and buyer can open a charge back claim with their payment source up to 180 days after their original payment date.
In my view the type of case buyer opens is not important as sellers are given the opportunity to make their case of why item should not be returned ( This is not the case if buyer opens an INAD case on eBay) and these organisations at their discretion determine whether a return should be granted or denied and if granted then buyer is required to send the item back at their cost via tracked& signed service to seller.
When item is shown delivered to seller then these organisations issue a refund to buyer and debit sellers account and seller to best of my knowledge does not get back final value fees that he had paid to eBay.
If Seller accepts a return through eBay be it outside of 30 days then he gets his final value fees back from eBay when a refund is issued.
I hope this gives you enough information for you to make decision that best suits you.
