I sold an about $180 collector's item. The buyer messages me after receiving it that they would like to return it because they ended up being gifted another and have two now.
I do not accept returns, but I know that doesn't mean anything. I know the polite/easy thing to do would be to just accept it back and just relist it. Thing I am afraid of is maybe not getting the actual item back, or it being damaged.
If I deny the refund, I know they can just file a "SNAD" and ebay would probably side with them or they could charge the payment back. I also do not want any animosity between the buyer and me. I really do not like fighting.
So yeah. Anyone have experience with something like this?

@cookie64 You've basically already covered every scenario yourself. You have the correct answers. It's really just your decision to make. There is no reason to presume the buyer will damage your item or send you something different. They were upfront with you already that the only reason they don't want this item is because someone just gifted them the same thing. That's very honest of them to say that. If I were in your position, I would ask them to return, and relist the item to sell again. If it sold once it will sell again. You will be out the shipping but that's a chance seller's take when selling items online to perfect strangers. Try to remain positive. Best of luck to you....

My reply as to what should be done would completely parrot Lamber9347' s excellent post above.
My comment is regarding the buyer. It often makes me shake my head at what some people do.
Ok... They now have TWO of the item, because one was gifted to them at the same time they bought yours, but they don't think twice about leaving YOU short.
Maybe I'm being petty, but wouldn't it be something if their gifted item broke just after they returned yours back to you? And they now wanted it BACK?
