Okay, so sell VHS tapes. A tape I sold was delivered, no issues. Only I get it back in the mail today. It wasn't returned to sender, and shipping was paid for buy the buyer. I didn't authorize a return, but I don't mind doing one. The buyer claims to have not known it was a VHS. Even though it said VHS in the listing title and description and it was listed in the category for VHS. What I have a problem with is the little note the buyer taped to the video including his email address and two Paypal pone numbers. I'm obviously not going to issue a refund a buyer either of those ways because that a TOS violation, as is giving a seller contact info. Should I just contact them though Ebay messaging and have them initiate a refund, with pictures of the note and package? Or should I report them and issue a refund on my end? Honestly anyone who mistakes a nearly 40 year old VHS for a DVD may not be smart enough to initiate a refund request correctly.

I wouldn't overthink it - either buyer didn't like the movie or genuinely didn't pay attention - although confusing with a DVD doesn't seem likely looking at your straightforward listings. Buyer might have included the personal info just so you wouldn't think they were scamming you. I've done some dumb things - it happens!
You must've rolled your eyes when the VHS came home 😉

It is not against TOS to give a seller your contact information after they win.
Why make it complicated or force them to file a chargeback which will end up costing you $20?
Locate the order in the Seller Hub. In the drop down select Send Refund. Choose a reason. Specify a refund amount. You might want to deduct original shipping from their refund. Send it.

You know what, I am overthinking it. Just kind of freaked me out that they didn't do things the correct way. I think I am going to message them and include photos though, just in case.

I had the same thing happen to me this past week. I have messaged her on eBay and no reply. I received a package in the mail with the $125.00 purse that I had sold. Her note said, "Sorry I returned this it is too big."

The buyer saw that your return policy is 30 days and she pays return shipping. So that's what she did. Just refund the purchase price as per your policy.
