Buyer did not read description; opened return request for "item not described". What should I do?

I sold a non-functioning speaker that was listed under "for parts or not working". A buyer purchased this item, and upon delivery, quickly opened a return request for "item not as described" claiming the speaker didn't work. I reached out to the buyer explaining how the item was clearly listed both in the title and description as not working. Unfortunately, I do not have the option to decline the return either. What should I do? Should I just wait until I have the option for eBay to step in?

Since the buyer filed an "item not as received" claim, you should accept the return. They will issue a label to the buyer for the return, for which you will be charged once it is used.

 

If eBay steps in, they will refund the buyer and let them keep the item and you will receive a ding to your account. 

 

Sadly, buyers are not required to read the listings, and this seems to happen a lot with items that are listed as "non-working" or "for parts".

Okay looking at my returns, they filed it as "item arrived damaged". The item was sold as damaged, so I don't think I'm in the wrong here. I see where you're coming from with the not as described claim. My mistake for not being more specific at first.

In this case you have choices.

1. If you want the item back before refunding, supply the prepaid return shipping label.

2. Refund and let the buyer keep the item.

3. Do nothing and eBay will step in, refund the buyer, allow them to keep the item and you get a nasty defect on your selling account.
