I have a buyer that decided to open a return case as "Doesn't match description or photos" (listing, Photos and description is perfect)
Then in the comments puts "It’s not what I was look for"..
The listing clearly states no returns on that item so I personally think the Buyer was trying to abuse the return policy to get a free shipping label....
I agreed to return it but the buyer would have to pay for shipping since it was no fault of my own...He agreed to ship it back wither he is really going to send it back who knows, he could just wait the time and possibly get a refund and the item..
Now with a return open in which i have until the April 15th to refund or pay for shipping back to me..
So I talked to a "Agent" on live chat and they basically told me to eat the shipping cost to have it sent back (In no way is that right)..
IF I do not do this I will get a defect strike AND be out the shipping and possibly the item (80 dollar item) all because some buyer decided to open a Description return on buyer remorse ....I feel like a hostage being told do this or be punished!...
Anyways to the question ..Will Ebay just steal the money from me and refund the buyer or what?
Pretty sure what most of you will say that is "take the hit and pay to return it"
I agree but at some point someone has to say this is not right and stand on principal.

I have seller protection that allows me to provide a 50% refund on items returned that are not in the same condition as when I shipped.
I would be issuing the refund thru the eBay return and if I remember correctly, there is a selection to make explaining why a partial refund is being issued.
I don't get a lot of returns but I do know that I would not be issuing the refund thru PayPal.

Quick question..
Ok...i got the item back and it it broken and not resellable
No damage to the box
Front face plate of the receiver is missing a chunk and something is rattling around inside...appears to me it has been dropped..
So it seems i will do a partial refund (agent advised it ) since it was not returned in the condition it was sent...
Question is, if i do a partial through Paypal ( there is no option i can find on Ebay to do so) will it show on the Ebay return that i DID give a partial refund so Ebay doesn't just come in and refund the total amount?
I will also put in the notes the item is damaged upon return and i did put pics on the Ebay return showing the damage..

Sadly when i go through the refund process it has no option for a partial refund ....
I can click item returned damage and there is a option for a note to explain it but no option to a partial refund through the Ebay return..
It just says refund buyer the total amount of the buyers purchase.

Yes, a withhold up to 50% refund is only for Top Rankled Sellers with 30+ days returns. We are being gaslighted.

You must not have the seller protection I was talking about, that is why you can only refund the entire amount thru eBay.
My "guess" is that the buyer could still go back to eBay and get the rest or all of their money refunded by eBay. So the partial thru PayPal might put you at risk of losing more, but I can't say for sure.
Issuing a partial refund thru PayPal rather than thru the eBay return has risk involved and could be considered a trying to work around the eBay return system.
If you have time, I would suggest waiting on others to chime in.

And..... If eBay steps in to refund the rest, that sounds like it contains a seller defect as well.

Case closed after a review of the listing and pics of the damage...No refund was issued to the buyer and I will not receive a defect strike...So says the Agent I spoke with
Thank you for the advice...this return has been a bane for awhile now.

And now it seems Ebay has refunded the buyer....After telling me the ruling was in my favor
I swear i have had enough of this **bleep**

I hope this sticks for you as we don't hear this often on these boards.
Perhaps your buyer has had issues in the past with return cases that were documented?
Make sure to follow up with reporting the buyer.

eBay opened a case because of an issue with an item purchased from you. We reviewed the case and have decided to issue the buyer a refund of $72.97 without any impact to you..
This case is now closed. You are not required to reimburse the buyer or eBay, and this case will not be counted in your seller performance evaluation.
Is this to make everyone happy or what ...i have never heard of Ebay paying for anything? lol

It does happen, not often, but it does happen - Good result for you
Basically it is a flawed system, the case should have closed in your favour, however eBay messed up, so no cost to you but to keep an 'exhalted' buyer happy they pay, put this buyer on your BBL

Congrats. Good outcome.
When this happens, it is final. I have had eBay give a scammer a courtesy refund even though they knew he was lying and scamming a TV mount.
It is weird how eBay operates at times.
