Hello,

With sales tax being collected in both Washington and Minnesota, are there any plans to accept reseller permits or other tax exemptions?

I have a business in WA state and don't see any option to avoid paying sales tax for purchases. It would be time consuming to have to request a sales tax refund for all purchases businesses make for resale on your website.

Thanks

Yay! I see I got credits for the insertion fees that I was promised. Yay, eBay!

SO what is eBay doing about the new sales tax they are forcing on Washington and Minnesota buyers? As a business with a valid resale license, I can not opt out of any purchase on eBay to my state even though 99% of all my eBay buys are for resale. This puts me at a distinct disadvantage. At the least, I will have to raise prices 10% because of the tax I shouldn't have had to pay.

I doubt the state will want to give back money. They likely will say speak to eBay about it.

Yes, I have brought this up before and I respect that the fix for this can't possibly be simple one.  Sometimes we purchase things on Ebay that are taxable and use our selling account to do so.  And sometimes if we are purchasing on Ebay for resale or shipping supplies [in some states] we may use an account just for buying.  There can be all kinds of mixtures of how sellers handle these transactions that can certainly complicate how Ebay finds a resolutions.

With that said, we do need a resolution as it is very important.

Hi @shielsdeals, we have passed along this question to the appropriate teams. We will update our sellers with any additional steps they must take on this topic. In the meantime, keep an eye on our recent announcement as we work to keep this post updated with current expectations.

Just as a note regarding something I learned recently.  The seller that handles Ebay branded shipping supplies currently charges sales tax to sellers and there are many states in which Sales Tax is NOT due on shipping supplies.  The state I am in is one of them.

It seems to me that they should be the easiest ones to get them to stop charging sales tax as all they sell is shipping supplies, of course for the states that this is appropriate for.

I did email them with this question and they did tell me that if we supply them with a Tax Exempt certificate, they would not charge sales tax or would refund it.

Happy New Year is this still accurate on the roll out of sales tax collection for 19'?

It would be nice if ebay could incorporate a system similar to what other retailers have, like Amazon and Best Buy. That way, we could select what purchases we want to buy without sales tax.
