Hi, it is nice to be at the weekly chat again.
Somebody noticed that there were some new rules added to the community guidelines recently...

10. Sharing patently false information.  Posting patently false or unsubstantiated content is harmful to other members and goes against the spirit of the Community.
7. Do not abuse Helpfuls. This includes soliciting others for helpfuls, giving an excessive number of helpfuls to a specific user or users, using multiple accounts to give yourself or others multiple helpfuls, and marking another member’s posts as helpful to help them get to the top of leaderboards.

My first question is about rule #10. What is considered "false"? Nobody is perfect, and everyone makes mistakes, so if you ban anyone who posts something that is incorrect, you would have a very quiet community with a lot of unanswered posts. Also, are you going to just remove things that are incorrect or will you edit it and change the answer so it is correct?

My second question is about rule #7. You said that "giving an excessive number of helpfuls to a specific user or users" is not allowed. There is a user who posts on the M2M board who has given 12,000+ 'helpfuls' to ONE user. If that is not an 'excessive amount of helpfuls,' I don't know what is. What is considered an 'excessive amount of helpfuls'?

Thanks.

Well, there were a few members consistently giving bad info I believe on purpose. I remember asking Trinton I believe if anything could be done about it. Now I’m not saying I’m responsible for this rule, I’m not but it’s been a problem.

I don’t see an issue with the helpful. I didn’t see that addition. Maybe they will explain “excessive” to us.

truth in advertising in titles:
there's a DVD I want. About half the entries are in Region 2, which I can't use. But only one of titles says that. The rest have it buried in the detailed description...which mobile users almost never see.
I would like to suggest that US listings for videos and DVDs that can't be watched here be required to state that in the title.
Likewise, US sellers of non-NTSC, non-VHS videos should be required to state that in the title.

Hi @vrykalak, thank you so much for sharing this insight, I'll be happy to pass along this suggestion!

Happy Easter to you too! I spent some of the weekend recovering from a root canal, so it wasn't the most enjoyable Easter I've ever had! tired_face grinning

Re: Community Chat, April 4th from 1pm Pacific - General Topics

I spent quite a bit of time last night trying to find a good way to offer a discount when someone orders multiple items with FREE shipping.  I wanted to offer $2 or $3 off each additional (free shipping) item when 2 or more were ordered.    There's really no way to create such a discount, either as a shipping discount or an order discount.

I was able to create an order promotion by adding a "free shipping" category to my store and adding that as the second category to all items with free shipping and then creating a promotion for 10% off three or more,  not really what I wanted, but as close as I could come.  It's not showing as a shipping discount (preferable) but even as an order discount it's not clear what the details are.

My policy, when I see something incorrect in a listing or post, is to contact the person, tell why I think the information is incorrect, and ask them to change it.

I usually get a thank you from the person...except one time, when the seller said "We don't have time to check our listings. You figure it out."

Hi. I just wanted to know if the eBay/Nascar deal with RCR & Paul Newman was a one shot deal or can we expect to see more of this in the coming season?

I liked it btw-thought the car looked cool and as a Nascar fan liked seeing eBay's name out there too.  : )

Wow that car sure does look pretty, @Anonymous! I love it, and I love seeing eBay on TV when I'm chilling out at home.

Off the top of my head, I don't know if this was a one-off or not. What I'll do is contact our Marketing team to see if they can share any more information on this one.

I'll let you know what I hear back. Thanks!

I don't think the helpful rule is new.

To the best of my knowledge, it has always been there.

It may just seem new to some people.

Hey, y'all 🙂

Two questions:

1. When the switch to Adyen is implemented, do you know what the payment schedule is going to be? Can we manually request daily if so desired, or will payments be disbursed at a set time - weekly, bi-weekly, etc.

2. With Guaranteed Delivery, when a package is delivered late for whatever reason, will the buyer manually have to file a make it right claim, or is it automatically done by Ebay on the buyer's behalf?

Thank you!

Hi @southern*sweet*tea,

1. There's no new information available on this topic right now. For updates, keep an eye on eBay.com/payments

2. The buyer will need to make a claim.

Hope this helps!

Thanks.

Hi @dtexley3, I've seen some of these threads lately and have passed along the feedback provided there. I know that some of the restrictions on requesting a total may pose challenges for certain business models and am happy to work towards potential future improvements.

Glad you like it, @mg152! Although it doesn't happen too often, intentionally posting false information is harmful to the Community, so we felt that this addition was necessary.

Thank you.

I’m so glad to see this change. I had asked Trinton I believe it was Trinton what can be done about this bad info posting and at the time he said he’d look into it but there was no rule against it. I complained to the mods too. This rule makes me very happy because I know there are members that live to hurt others. I don’t get it at all! If they  can’t help someone then they should keep quiet. I know you guys can’t control Facebook but there’s lots of bad info there too. I get tired of arguing with people & trying to stop the hurtful info. IE: Lots Of Ebay members not newbies will tell others to cancel orders at their discretion. Now, we all know we can’t do that. It’s infuriating! Can I just say, we have some great moderators in the Ebay community! I have no problem with the mods.

I don't remember seeing it when I last looked (last year).

Any eBay employees want to enlighten us on this?

So, I am no longer able to use Markdown Manager and the only option is to use the new Promotions tab.  WHY am I limited to offering no more than a 60% discount under sales event +markdown?  Also, the new Promotions page is clunky and not user friendly to me.  Is there somewhere to read up on how to use the new tools?

Hi @reclaimed_denim - currently the maximum discount you can apply to items is 60%, instead of the previous 75%. We tended to see less sales conversion from items discounted more than 60%. Since it appeared to be a deterrent for buyers the maximum amount was reduced.

It always takes time to get used to a new tool. Take a look here for info on the sale event specifically and here for info on the Promotions Manager overall (if you scroll to 'Examples of Promotions' about halfway down you should have links to click on the various types and it will take you to more in-depth info on each). Thanks!

Question regarding how a buyer selects the reason for a Return Request.

Let’s say I have a buyer that I’ve been communicating with in M2M regarding an issue the buyer is having with an item they purchased from me.  In the course of these communications the buyer clearly states that they want to return the item because it is just not what they really wanted or some other buyer remorse reason.

Then the buyer goes and opens up a request for a return but they do not use one of the BR reasons, they file it as a SNAD.  This happens to sellers all the time.  But in this case let’s keep in mind that the seller has clear evidence via M2M that this is a BR claim and the buyer has tried to game the system/seller by filing it as a SNAD.

When there is clear evidence and I do mean clear, not subjective, that the buyer filed for the wrong type of return, why can’t sellers call and get this SNAD closed or changed to a BR return?

What  is it that Ebay expects sellers to do in a case like this?  What are a seller’s options to get this changed as the two types of claims carry a different process for most sellers?

Hi @mam98031! We have contacted the appropriate teams about the process these kinds of returns are subject to. Once we have more information to share we will update the boards, no problem! In the meantime, I recommend that any seller who runs into this situation contact Customer Service to have the details reviewed for appropriate next steps.
