why, when I add another keyword to a search, does the scope suddenly revert to "all catagories" ?

I've noticed that when I add another keyword to a search and hit <enter> or click <search> I suddenly find the results from "all categories" rather than where I was, that seems wrong, and its very frustrating, what's going on ?
