All my saved searches are working just fine.   Have you tried clearing cache and cookies?

I think whether the saved searches work now or not depends on what the search was for.  So the current results would therefore be different for different people.  Since Ebay recently changed a lot of categories, deleting, merging, etc.  it caused massive changes for sellers especially when combined with the newly required item specifics in them.  It could be that your older saved searches are now "trying" to search for things no longer there because of eBay's category changes.    If that's the case, they will most likely need to be redone unfortunately.

You could try another browser and clearing cache, logging out and back in, etc.  if you haven't already.

eBay recently had some problems with the Advanced Search: "search by seller" function. If any of your saved searches use that feature and no longer seem to be working, try clearing your browser cache and possibly erasing eBay cookies, then try the search again. Or try those saved searches in another browser as a test to see if the problem is a conflict with cache or cookies.

Ebay seemingly messed with the searches again recently.  Some of my searches stopped working, period, some lost advanced options, like filters and sorting preference.   Thankfully, I've been saving all searches as browser links for quite some time, so I have not lost everything.

Oh, and search editing still does not work.  It's been, what, 5 years now?

Do the non-working searches have keywords?

I have seen complaints from users about keywordless "searches" -- actually category browsing rather than searching -- having problems maintaining filters and settings, and simply defaulting to a general category page.

If you have such a "search", you may be able to convert it into a working search by adding a keyword and hitting the search button. If you want the most general search of a category, try using one or more exact words from the category title as your search keywords.

And what could possibly be the reason for disabling category browsing?  How can that possibly benefit eBay?

I doubt that there was a decision made to intentionally disable category browsing, and indeed it is still possible to browse all but the highest level categories.

Nevertheless, changes in categories or filters or the way category browsing or searching works can sometimes affect older bookmarked or saved searches in unpredictable ways.

Recently there was an issue on ebay.co.uk where selecting a category and hitting the search button without entering any search keywords, which previously allowed users to browse high level categories, instead directed users to an ebay.com error page. Not intended behavior. Adding search keywords prevented the misdirection and error from happening.

And now a search that resulted in ~1k$ a month worth of spending is crippled to a point where I stopped running it.

It happens -- not often, but it does happen more often than it should, and that is unfortunate.

A few years ago eBay made major changes to the entire search mechanism including an entirely new syntax for search commands, eliminating wild card searches entirely. I had close to a hundred complicated individual searches bookmarked that suddenly stopped returning results, and each had to be entirely recreated from scratch. I was not happy about that, so I can certainly understand where you are coming from.

Major changes to the site's search mechanics are rare, but changes do happen. But even relatively minor category changes and filter changes can affect the way buyers search and sellers list -- and adding new item-specifics to listings is a major burden on sellers.

There is no guarantee that a search that works today will continue to work indefinitely. Not all changes will be backwards compatible. That is true of eBay and also of other sites in general.

What is the alternative? Forbidding eBay to make any changes that might break any possible existing search? That is just not feasible. No site could operate under that constraint for very long.

If running that particular search provided value to you beyond the amount of spending you made using it, it is likely worth spending a little time to recreate it so you can continue to use it. If you run into problems trying to get a search working again, feel free to post whatever general questions or specific details you want to share; someone will likely be able to offer some suggestions to make the search work better for you.
