Did you mean:

"You can't cancel this order because there is a problem with one of the items in the order."

Since yesterday 10/21/20 when I try to cancel unpaid orders (buyers have requested to cancel by messanging me directly), I get the error message, "You can't cancel this order because there is a problem with one of the items in the order." It appears that I can open an Unpaid Item Dispute, but I don't want to do this for people who contact me asking to cancel. Is this a known technical issue? I don't believe there is actually a problem with the items causing me to be unable to cancel.

I'm having this same issue as well

Not sure what is going on, and why they still have not fixed the issue.

I called customer support, they said this is a "known technical isssue" but they took down my ID and buyer's ID information, so hopefully it will be resolved soon.

I have had this happen twice since getting put into Managed Payments (once last August, and once early this month).  Are you in MP?  Neither situation ended in any resolution or help from eBay seller support.  I had multiple chat sessions, was told it was a known issue, was told they would followup with emails to me.  I never heard from anyone again.

The first time I ended up simply sending funds to the buyer directly from my PayPal account so she could be refunded.  I received a late tracking upload notification, and never was reimbursed final value fees.   The 2nd time I received a notice saying I hadn't responded to the buyer's request.  This was wrong because I had most certainly tried repeatedly to do so, however the "cancel" and "refund" options were both gone from the action options on the order.  After 4 days, I got another eBay notice saying that since I hadn't responded to the cancel request, that eBay would no longer cancel it.  However at that point, at least the refund option re-appeared on the order, so I was able to refund the customer via eBay.  I didn't receive FVF credit on that one either.

In my case, it was a total waste of time trying to get help, (spent over 4 hours total time on it with support), so I have just moved on.

Best of luck to you all.  I've been here 22 years and never had a single issue like this in all that time until starting MP last August.  There is a glitch in this cancel process on multiple item listings and no resolution in sight that I'm aware of.  They seem clueless unfortunately.

I am now having this issue as well across multiple auctions this week. Fortunately it's only one item I need to cancel (the others I just tested to see if I even had the ability to cancel, which I don't) and it's a buyer who works with me repeatedly and they're fine not paying -- but what a mess.

I'm not using Managed payments, I still use Paypal. The issue is still there, and I told the eBay reps but a week has gone by and they still have not fixed the issues. Customers are getting annoyed because they keep getting notifications to pay for their item, and have been forced to open unpaid item cases to get my fees returned to be, which makes them even more upset, and this is because eBay is not listening to sellers and fixing the problem.

We are having this issue as well. I tried to cancel several unpaid orders and they all give me this. I have a customer that accidentally ordered an item twice using the buy it now button.  We want to cancel it and hopefully they are understanding and won't leave negative feedback on the paid order because of this.  I've sent the details to ebay support so hopefully we get an answer quickly.
