Experts,
I've noticed this forever, but today I decided to ask you folks about it.
I just listed an item for which I had done a number of nit-picky edits, each done after viewing the auction via the link you get when you hit "update listing." [I know that you can view the listing without clicking "update listing," but this time I didn't.]
So there were about 6 "views" for the listing before it went active. Three minutes after going active there were 7. This was a low-volume low-interest item. So the likely explanation for 7 views at that point was that 6 views were carried over from my editing process. Shouldn't the "views" number reflect only views during the time the listing is active?
I don't think this is entirely a "don't care" situation. Doesn't eBay consider the ratio of watchers to views (or some such metric) when it decides the "best match" ranking? If so, an inflated/incorrect number of views undermines that metric.
