There is a known eBay Home Page error affecting Internet Explorer 11 and Windows 7 users since the beginning of March (1 month). There are also other reports of problems with customers using Firefox browsers and mobile devices. I'm on a Windows 7 PC using IE 11 and I have to sign-in using a work-around.
The work around I use, which may work for you, is to sign-in on another eBay page. I use a Community Boards page which I bookmarked. The problem is evolving and getting worse, so I have to have two pages open. I sign-in on one and get an error message, which I close and then close the page (quickly). Then I go to the 2nd open page and select my Watch List and I'm logged in. It sounds weird .... but so is eBay 🙂
If you aren't getting an error message and just can't log-in, then most likely your password isn't being recognized and you might need to reset.

Infrequent buyers and sellers often need to verify their personal information with eBay. eBay does this to avoid fradulent attempts to use this site. Seldom used accounts are often take over targets by scammers. This seems to happen most often to members who are located outside the US.
Since you are located in Sri Lanka, you might consider using the social sites below to contact eBay...
You can call eBay - https://www.ebay.com/help/-/-/Contacting_eBay_Customer_Service?id=4379
Or contact them on Facebook.com/eBay or Twitter.com/AskeBay
For the social sites...You can contact Customer Service on Facebook, via private message and though direct message on Twitter.
Please do not provide any personal or account specific information (username, item number, etc.) publicly, only through private or direct message. An eBay employee will verify your account information and be happy to work with you.
Outside the US?
Try Skype - https://support.skype.com/en/faq/fa10613/how-do-i-make-a-call-on-skype

Did you not notice how old this thread was? May 7, 2017 and that user hasn't been online since 5-7-2017.
Not sure how you found a thread that should have drifted down by a couple of YEARS.

Thanks @readabouthorses! I did not notice that, but just saw the post date of the previous reply. My bad.
No problem. The post date on that reply was misleading because it looked like the OP's post date and not the user replying.
I'm just curious what method the person who replied used to actually find this post that should have been buried so deep that no one would find it again since it never got any responses back in 2017 when it was posted to bump it up. What ever is bringing these old threads to the surface needs to be stopped ... too many of them happening lately.

This thread was at the top of the threads when I had just logged in at Community Boards and I thought it was current . I didn't notice the date until you just pointed it out. Not sure why old threads are popping up at the top, but probably just another Technical Glitch.
In any event, the overall topic is still fresh (i.e. Login issues at the Home Page), so if anyone sees this in the search they have some info to help them out.

The post was at the top of the feed when I first signed in at Community Boards. I hadn't selected any filter or searched for any topic. Not sure what's bringing the old threads to the surface, but eBay has so many Technical Issues running simultaneously that everything is possible. I'll check dates more carefully going forward.

Hi everyone,
Due to the length of time that has passed since this thread began, we have locked it from future replies. If this is still an issue that warrants discussion, don't hesitate to begin a new thread here: https://community.ebay.com/t5/forums/postpage/board-id/technicalissues-db.
Thanks.
