Tried my best to counter the buggy count down issues i have dealt with before, have lost auctions because the auction ends early-according to bid window clock being off ! I open multiple windows watch the clocks are both in synch ! 3 mins left i open bid window , leaving bid window open usually can't trust it to be accurate after 10 or more minutes open ! , going back and forth the clock was good , waited for 10-5 second left to bid , 5 sec insurance wasn't enough ! There are times it works as it should but , i have placed bids 3-1 sec before end that work , but other times its a crap shoot ! Is it an issue with ebay ? or is it my Internet providers service ? I can tell counter doesn't count down smoothly often, in synch , you see it skip seconds to correct or catch up , its like Ebay system lagging not refreshing timers as it should. So forget about last Min Bidding at Ebay ! only if its an item you really don't need want except for it being a great deal you stab at. Conspiracy to train us to bid early bid high ? Mean while this unfixable timing bug fault costs them who knows how much lost revenue due to bids not getting through in time ! Things were better before they added this bid clock timer , you can't trust it , back to a kitchen cooking timer , but Ebay auction end times are only listed up to the minute , the seconds at which time auctions end are excluded from view ! So i vent my frustration once more when it occurs and someone did get a great deal due to these issues but not me ! i always lose to bidders in final seconds left ! Why can't i bid last seconds consistently to win?

Perhaps you need a better bidding strategy. Bid the most you are willing to pay and let proxy bidding do the rest for you. Waiting until the clock runs out is risky as you’ve discovered. All auctions end to the sec they started, they never end earlier or later than when they started.

This happened to me also, and the seller said someone got in there before me. Well it sure didn’t show up on the auction board. Just saying this is not always on the up and up.

A common source of such countdown issues can be your computer's time setting. If your time is off by a few seconds (or more) that can affect the countdown you see, making it difficult or impossible to bid in the last few seconds of an auction.
Check your computer's time here:

As I was not always available to "click the mouse" in the last few seconds, back in the day when I was a working man, I used a "service" to do the deed for me.
I feel your pain. You are talking "seconds". We have seen post about things being off by "minutes"............. in both directions. I have no clue as to which end the problems are on.

If you add ten bucks and change at least, you will win some of those auctions. The problem is that buyers sometimes just go up a dollar or two. If you really want something that is rare and unique, go for it by bidding alot more than the minimum amount.

Think about those in the stock market. They have faster internet and newer computers. Its all about speed.
I have bid on items...in a few seconds. If I want something I look at other bidders to see what they are doing. Do I do a high bid or wait seconds for an auction to end. I laugh at those who bid in seconds on an auction at 5 AM. I would just do a high bid and when I get up at 8 AM I will see if I won.
