Going through our list of 'recommended item specifics'
Some of the recommended options do not allow 'other' or 'none' or 'does not apply". They offer specific names only (such as companies) which do not match the product we are selling.
If we have to update these options in order to get the placement that we pay for, then ebay is making us lie to our customers.
Should we continue? We do not want to have to go through our listings twice. Is this being fixed?

Maybe you should ditch these recommendations until they are fixed.

Can you give an example? which category and what is the item specific? Can you share your item id.

Like you, I am concerned that this item specific recommendations stuff may have an impact on visibility and thus sales. I have 715 recommendations today. I toyed around with a few listings and then gave up. On listing #264914846024 I had to create a "series" and add it to get rid of the recommendation notation on the listing. This was a one time product to my knowledge, so not really a series. To me a giant waste of time.

You got it.
On one of mine it asked for maker and it listed a bunch of companies but no 'other' or 'none' option. There was no maker listed on the item. I accidentally clicked one of the companies. And then I couldn't remove it without picking another incorrect company.
So, now we're lying to our buyer.

Another one. Selling a book on how to play poker. The recommended item specific?
Regional Cuisine.
Because, you know, EVERY book is a cookbook.
(reminds me of the time when you could ONLY list books as erotica - no matter what they were about).

Okay. Now some of the options are offering a custom entry - which wasn't happening yesterday.
Still major problems with this.

I noticed some changes, as well. One would think that there would be no difference in the recommendations for the different sports (baseball, basketball, football). You'd be wrong. Absolutely goofy. I imagine changes are taking place daily. I'm going to cross my fingers and hope that they just get rid of this garbage.

For any item specific errors you can and should email sdsupport@eBay.com
Maybe if enough sellers email them they will fix these errors
