For some reason the "enter bid" box has been removed and there is no way for eBay to check with the bidder that the bid entered is correct before it is confirmed. This is stupid. Stop redesigning. Screenshots of missing box below.
For example: Bidding $100 in error when you meant to bid $1.00
Process before: enter bid $100>>eBay asks "confirm bid $100?">>NO/change bid to $1.00>>confirm bid $1.00>>bid confirmed
Process now: select place bid>>enter bid $100>>fail to notice missing decimal and confirm mistyped bid>>bid confirmed for wrong amount(no recourse in some situation due to rules concerning when bids can be retracted)

For some reason the "enter bid" box has been removed and there is no way for eBay to check with the bidder that the bid entered is correct before it is confirmed.
The process has changed for those users that previously entered the amount on the item listing page, but as long as the user actually looks at the amount entered before hitting the "bid" button the second time, there is ample opportunity to verify the amount is correct.
For users that hit the bid button first without entering a number, the process has not changed.
Use the "Give us feedback" link on the bid entry pop-up to fill out a survey about the bidding process and to make your opinions known to the page developers.

Totally agree with you on this one. It's a dangerous hole they are going down if this is permanent.
