It is possible that eBay has changed the way that photos are displayed, or that eBay is testing something new. When I click on a photo in a listing using a desktop browser, if the photo resolution is high enough, I see a magnified view of the photo in the same size footprint, but I can move the view around to see different portions of the image. I can also right click to open the image in a new tab, and then click again to zoom.
Try another browser to rule out a browser issue. Or a different listing.
If you prefer the old behavior, be sure to use the "?" / "Comment" / "Feedback" link in the lower right corner of the listing to provide eBay with feedback about the change.
