Ebay can resize and rescale your pictures to reduce space on a server. These are just profile images and not images for the items you are selling. There used to be articles on the size and pixel count for images you want to add to your profile. The issue may be your image is too large and perhaps if you resized it just a little it may stay better looking then the amount ebay is resizing it. I would try a few tests like 15 then 20 then 25 percent smaller to see how they look and if ebay will stop reducing the image size and quality due to it already being smaller. Then once you find a lower quality that is acceptable to you use that instead of the full sized image they clearly do not like. Over all the reason they are probably doing this is to reduce cost from storing large images indefinitely on their servers. After all seller profile images are images of items that are not for sell. They tend to stay up and while individually each image does not take up much space but multiply that by 6.7 million sellers the amount of storage space does add up.
