Web attack while using Ebay

For about the past week I have been getting Web Attack Blocked notices from my anti virus only when I use Ebay.  Sometimes a new page is opened.  Does anyone know why and how I can stop it?

@gammygee60

eBay has 170 million active users (est). It is a very popular site. IT is little wonder that hackers might try to exploit users of this site.

First check your system for malware. MalWareBytes is a good tool for this (free). It is entirely possible that your system has the 'virus'.

Also, some ads on eBay, via javascript, can make virus programs think there is a virus, when there is not.

Again check your system for viruses.

eBay is continually updating this site. Some advice given may have changed. Please reply to this thread, to let us know if this advice works for you. The links on the bottom of any eBay page can help you deal with most eBay issues. Contact eBay Customer Service on Facebook.com/eBay or Twitter.com/AskeBay

Having the same problem-constant re-directs. I have scanned with Malwarebytes & have zero infections.

This is only when I look at items on e-bay so Y'all got the bugs according to Malwarebytes.

Yes me too! I have had it happen about three times in the past couple of months. Also I receive a warning sometimes that I have a virus and to call a number on the screen or I will lose everything on my computer. Of course I don't do that! The only way I can seem to make it go away is to close down my computer. And I have not had a virus like it says I do!

Thanks! A full system scan is the first thing I did. No viruses.

Me Too!=Re: Web attack while using Ebay

It started for me last night or day when I tried to open a certain listing and Eset tried to block

and there was a specific dealer name associated with it  whenn I tried to block it wounded take finally I had to do allow to be able to close the window but there is some bug on the ebay site because when it happened the 2nd time I couldnt get out of it without closing ebay window - this is a first for me

I am curious if you are having the exact same scenario before in and report to ebay as I dont want to try and open that listing again even if I can remember it for fear of it dumping more stuff into my computer

rest of Ebay navigation in my own folders seems all right - I run Eset and Malwarebites, Eset has no history of this in it's log- thx

Happened to me last night. Was trying delete some items from my watch list and as soon as I clicked delete it immmediately went to another site with a voice saying something about a Microsoft spyware issue but I just shut the whole browser down. This was while using Firefox. I shut my computer down then started again. A virus scan turned up nothing.

It doesn't happen for me when I'm looking at a specific lisitng.  It happens when I'm searching listings in the search box.  It hasn't happened again for a couple of days.  I am hoping it has been fixed.

I just received a Windows Firewall Alert. A popup box warning. I just x'ed out. But, yes, I think eBay has some serious infection going on, probably to do with their ad service. It is IMPERATIVE that eBay takes this seriously and fixes it ASAP. How many buyers are leaving and might not come back if they think eBay is unsafe and unsecure?? Answer: A LOT!

I am having this happen now. Before I got Norton, these attacks totally ruined my pc to the point I had to reset it to factory settings because mcaffe was not catching it. I just got off the phone with ebay and they are pushing the blame elsewhere... even though ebay is the common denominator.

Me Too!=Re: Web attack while using Ebay

For any use of websites, online games, social media, downloads, or streaming media really for anything done online you need multiple programs to make sure nothing slips by. MalWareBytes is a good but I also use McAfee Live safe. Live safe is also good because you can put it on all of your devices with 1 licence key. Both run in real time and one or the other catch most issues before they can load. The pop ups you got probably were last ditch fishing attempts. Just close them out and do not click on them. If you leave them open they will try and over load your ram. IF they are successful your device will dump your protection programs first since they use the most ram. While they reboot you will be at risk of attack. These days it is not a good idea to leave any web page open unattended because of the ram attacks. Most adds are ok but lots can be bad. Most sites do not test because if they are bad they would have to give back the money for allowing the add to be on their site. They use a warped excuse that every one should have anti virus and anti malware programs. However if they tested and did not allow those bad adds there would be no source for them. So if they tested and were safe for there users there would be no viruses and malware. It would mean a lot less money for the companies selling the anti virus and walware programs so there will never be any true reform.

Facebook is really bad about this and now ebay is in bed with them so it will probably become a norm as ebay always wants new revenue and companies like norton will probably pay ebay for allowing some risky adds to be used in order to promote the need for their services it is a viscous circle. A good thing about McAfee live safe is it tracks the number of attempts and will show you numbers and dates for attacks. When compared to your usage of web sites you can tell where they were coming from.
