View count not working leads to slow sales

Ever since EBay released an update to stop bot traffic, there has been ongoing technical issues with the view counter.

Over the last week I have been listing items that have a medium to high demand. I noticed that some items were getting watchers but still showing as 0 views. Now there is always the argument that buyers watch items without opening the listings, but the thing is, views are way down on all of my items which made me think there is some sort of glitch going on.

I called EBay today and gave them some examples of listings with low views. I would give them items that were showing as 1 view on my side, they checked and on their side, these same listings were showing as getting 10-20 views. So the view counter is broken on the sellers side, but that is only half of the problem. When your items are not getting views, the Cassini software thinks you are listing a load of rubbish that nobody wants to buy. This leads to a decrease in search impressions, which leads to a decrease in page view, which leads to less sales. Basically, all of your listings get pushed to the last pages of the search results which nobody ever looks at.

If you suspect this is happening to your account, please contact eBay, give them item numbers and ask them to check how many views are showing on their end and compare that to what is showing on your end. If enough people contact eBay with the same issue, hopefully they will get their act together and get this resolved.

EBAY, IF YOU ARE READING THIS. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. THIS IS AN ONGOING GLITCH THAT HAS BEEN RE-ACCRUING FOR NEARLY A YEAR. YOU ARE A MULTI MILLION DOLLAR COMPANY. WHY CAN YOU NOT EMPLOY A TEAM OF I.T PROFESSIONALS THAT CAN DO THE JOB PROPERLY. WE HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS AND GLITCHES FOR A LONG TIME NOW, ITS JUST BECOMING RIDICULOUS. PLEASE GET THIS RESOLVED.

Re: View count not working leads to slow sales

eBay did not stop bot views. eBay simply no longer counts bot views when calculating the view numbers. Bots are still able to crawl eBay and go through eBay pages as they have in the past.

Buyers cannot see the view numbers that you see on your seller page. If the view count is not being displayed or displays as zero on your page, that has no absolutely no affect on buyers at all.

If you have watchers but no "views", that is an indication that buyers are indeed finding your listings, and that potential problems with the view numbers displayed, if there are any, are not preventing your buyers from finding your listings.

Speculation about how Cassini might potentially use view numbers -- or even if Cassini is using the same numbers displayed on a seller's own page at all -- is just that: speculation.

You have no idea how the algorithm works.

Agreed. However, when listings are showing as 0 views, they get pushed down to the bottom of the search results.

Why would eBay push listings with no traffic to the top of search results? The software wants sales, because that makes commission. Don’t you think it makes sense push high traffic listings to the top?

Its a problem further down the line because buyers might see the listings today as they are fresh. However, low views will only push listing down on the search results and lead to decreased sales in the future.

Im not the only one reporting this glitch, it’s been ongoing for many sellers for nearly a year.

I don’t know anything about speculation, I just know facts.
