Vehicle Compatibility not showing on parts listings.

Supposedly someone has been working on this for months but I would like to know who else is having this problem. Please see screenshot below.

Vehicle Compatibility not showing on parts listings.

You could try using another browser.

Fails for me in Firefox 31.0 (old, obsolete version) which I use for most listing - box is there with non-spinning circle, but did work fine last time I checked in Firefox 52.2.1ESR (semi obsolete version).

Is failing in FF52 now. I see this:

ebay_Motors_listing_compatibility_FF52_072119_crop.gif

Wheel of death spins forever. "Add or Edit list" and "Use My Vehicles" both pop up a white modal dialog with nothing but a spinning wheel of death and go nowhere. "Use VIN" however works fine (but is mostly useless for listing a part unless only one vehicle is to be added or one has multiple VINs on hand).

However, that is with my default browser settings blocking script for ajax.googleapis.com  If I allow scripts form that domain, I see the same thing you did that shows in your screenshot - nothing where the compatibility stuff should be.

Appears eBay is using jquery code pulled from googleapis for the compatibility code (which is %&^#* lazy and stupid - I block everything NOT ebay when on ebay.com)

If you happen to be using NoScript (or similar extension) in your browser you might try temp blocking scripts from ajax.googleapis.com and see if anything changes. Or using Adblock Plus and block it with something like

ajax.googleapis.com^$domain=ebay.com

(It most likely won't work but curious if you get the same results I did)

No fixes here just observations. Compatibility appears to be totally broken now. I can no longer switch to Firefox 52 to create/revise listings and have compatibility work, and have no other options. No more Motors listings for me I guess.

The only way we where able to change our compatibility is after we have already listed the item. Meaning, we do everything in our listing and list the item. Than after the item is listed we go back and edit the item. Once in editing, we change the category on top and let it refresh its self. While still editing the item we notice that the comparability came back and we where able to change it to the correct vehicle. After we changed the correct vehicle one heads back up top and change the category back to the correct section. We save the item , finish the editing , and the item now show the correct compatibility. It's time consuming but its the only we are able to list items while waiting till the issue is fixed. We hope this helps.

I have tried all available browsers to no avail unfortunately. Someone suggested installing Firefox Developer Edition, or Firefox Nightly along side the current version of Mozilla to see if those would work. I just wish they would make it work already. Why do we have to constantly figure out work arounds?? I just want to make money and turn around and give ebay their cut. That's it. lol.

I totally agree it would be nice if things worked right, but they don't, have not for a long time, it is worsening, and we just have to cope or give up.

If running the latest release version of Firefox, running a developer or nightly MIGHT be a useful exercise - more so the nightlies as they are newer alpha/betas) - but doubtful.

This appears to be an issue where newer technologies (or browser identities) are required, and unless there is something major changed in a nightly (the scripting engine?), or a specific change made to address this issue (unlikely) success is also unlikely.

I often recommend use of OLDER Firefox versions when folks are having browser realted issues, but whatever it is is working in my older Firefox installs. That isn't applicable here as the vehicle compatibility is failing in all versions (2-52) I tried, and gets closer to working the newer I go.

I include the info below in case you want to experiment with older or developer Firefox versions anyway (Don't think anyone bothers to convert nightlies to portable versions - they are transient for the most part).

I run Firefox Portable versions that I run along side each other (and used to run along "regular" Firefox versions.) Totally standalone, can be put on a flash/thumb drive even, and pretty much available up to usually the latest release version of the regular Firefox.

You can find the Firefox Portable additions here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox,%20Portable%20Ed./
https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox-portable-legacy-52
https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/

Developer additions are also found there
https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%20Developer%20Portable/

An older post of mine that has Firefox portable info and instructions for the tweak to run multiple Firefoxen concurrently:
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Archive-Selling/Firefox-PayPal-Shipping-Label-Printing-Problems-With-N...

Finally, if running Noscript or other script blocking, Adblock Plus, or any other privacy addons, disable them and try. There is either a broken script, script linkage, missing page component or something similar going on here I think (see my mumblings about the use of googleapis content above).

Vehicle Compatibility not showing on parts listings.

Ok, I found a workaround (again - I did the legwork again, totally had forgotten about the previous occurrence of this, found the other thread, and doh!)

Spoof the browser user agent to indicate that it's an iPad or IE9 AND block ajax.googleapis.com content and it all works.

It was laid out in the other thread your surfaced:https://community.ebay.com/t5/Technical-Issues/ebay-motors-edit-or-add-compatibility-list-not-workin...

(things have changed since then: IE7 is now totally rejected as a browser ID, but IE9 and iPad Safari 6 still work, and blocking of ajax.googleapis.com content is required)

Block ajax.googleapis.com and figure out how to spoof the user agent (manually in about:config, using an addon if there is one for your browser, run an older portable Firefox where you can use the addon, etc) or run an older browser like IE9 if you can (virtual machine?).

It takes me literally 5 seconds to run around: click User Agent Switcher icon in browser toolbar, choose iPad Safari 6.0 from dropdown, hit F5 to reload listing revise page, and compatibility is there and functioning (I do so little Motors listing, or Motors listing that requires compatibility that it is not a burden - if I remember the workaround 🙂

It totally works, but there is no easy button answer to implementing it if you are running the latest and greatest browsers that prevent user control in the name of security and browser dumbing down - Firefox is no longer a power user's tool.

(I have the ajax.googleapis.com content blocked by default in those browsers via an Adblock Plus rule and a Noscript rule. Can also be temporarily implemented using a Windows HOSTS file entry 0.0.0.0 ajax.googleapis.com for testing)

In the other thread you mentioned using an older version of Firefox for a Zebra printer - if it's Firefox 31 or newer, it works with the listing form, and you can use XPI addons like User Agent Switcher in it (older versions like 21 or 11 might work also, but the way I have them set up I can't test it easily)

brian@ebay This eBay Motors compatibility bug is still a major issue. The compatibility section is either blank or partially displayed and non-functional with a spinning wheel of death in Firefox 31-52 for me, and in other newer various brand browsers for other users.

For me, if the browser user agent is spoofed as an iPad, or IE9, AND block the jQuery call to ajax.googleapis.com it works in both FF31 and FF52. That indicates it is falling back to older simpler code that works, and that the new code is broken (which would affect most users running current browser versions) See the link to the other thread a couple of paragraphs above.

I do see that this is still an open issue that our developers are looking into. I'll pass along the details you've shared in this thread for them to review. Thanks, @berserkerplanet!

@junknstuff

the section which determines the item compatibility never stops spinning

See the thread above for some possible workarounds for the compatibility chart issue, assuming you are referring to the automotive category.

Vehicle Compatibility not showing on parts listings.

I am trying to add compatibility to my listings too. I have a couple of questions.

I see some sellers have pages and pages of different years/models that will fit one particular part. How can I add all of these years/models without doing it one at a time? I am sure I am doing something really wrong.

You can select multiple makes, models, and years when editing/adding compatibility options, but it would take multiple passes (because if you select say 1994-2000, and Ford and Chevy, the part might not fit 1998-2000 Fords even though it fits Chevys in that year range)

Big sellers are most likely using eBay File Exchange for bulk uploads or other third party bulk listing/management tools.
(the docs I have say you can match up to 1000 vehicles per listing)

@street-motto-cycles  I was doing the same thing, changing the compatibility after listing, but of course I was so unlucky that I had one item sell before getting the chance to make the changes unamused This worked sporadically, like once in 3, 4 tries. Then this morning I found your suggestion, with changing the category, but every time I would update the compatibility chart it would either reverse to the old one or it would give me some error and a text written in red saying to try again later.

So tonight I tried again changing the category to try to bring up the compatibility chart, with a listing I was creating, BEFORE I would hit the "list" button, and it worked... for now.

But I'm so mad! 😞

@bestdealinparts

I am so sorry to hear you are having even more problems. We have had to keep doing the same thing and it has not got any better yet. It's now over a month with the same issue and no results. The only way we are still adjusted the compatibility is listing the item then editing it after. Once in editing we Change the category to a different one which will bring up then bring up the compatibility section. Change the make and model to the correct one. After go back to the top and change it back to the original or correct category. It should still work and hope it does as its a pain in the butt not being able to use it. We can't list any items if that sections is incorrect. If anything changes for us, we will make sure to inform you. Good luck and hope things get better.
