All week long I have not been able to respond to buyers' messages from my computer. I am using windows 10, have tried both Chrome and Microsoft Edge (both are up to date), cleared cookies and cache, signed out and signed back in and the problem still exists. I also tried responding from my email and that doesn't work either.
Once you type the first letter of the response eBay does not allow you to type any other letters.
Right now I have an unhappy customer that needs a response. Please help.

If you have the Grammarly browser plug-in installed in your browser, try disabling it.
Or else use another browser that does not have that plug-in installed when sending a message.

Does it say "You have exceeded the maximum number of messages you can send. Please wait 24 hours to send more messages"? If that's the error I think eBay is currently having some difficulties.
Happening to me too, even though I haven't sent a message in the past weeks.

I notice you are registered in Canada, but you are currently posting on the US ebay.com discussion boards.
Do you get that error if you try to send a message from ebay.ca? I wonder if eBay is limiting the number of messages that users can send from sites other than the one they are registered with.
Alternatively, see if you can send a message using the eBay app.
You may have better luck sending a message from the user's feedback page using the "Contact" link there.

I am having the same issue with Chrome. I was able to get messages to work in Edge.
