Re: Unable to checkout - getting "We ran into a problem. Please try again."

There are many possible reasons why a payment might not work. What error message are you receiving, or at what point in the process are you getting stuck?

Problems checking out or paying generally fall into one of the following categories:

Temporary glitch -- try again later.

Browser issue -- try another browser. Try disabling your ad blocker on checkout pages or PayPal's sign in page. If using Firefox, try disabling Enhanced Tracking Protection. Try checking out using the eBay app.

Device issue -- try another device to rule out problems with a particular device or firewall.

Problem with the seller's eBay or PayPal account; in some cases the seller has not set up the account to accept payment from the buyer or from the buyer's location. Particularly the case when the seller is new to selling or located in another country than the buyer. Must be fixed by the seller. I see you are registered in India. Does your seller ship to India? If not, your seller may not be set up to receive a payment from an account registered in India.

Problem with the buyer's eBay or PayPal account; similar to problems with the seller's account. In some cases PayPal needs additional documentation or the accounts need to be linked or verified, or the buyer needs to create a PayPal account as there are limits to the number and amount of transactions that can be completed as a guest without registering. Must be fixed by the buyer.

Problem with a particular payment method or card -- in that case trying a different card, or switching between using PayPal or entering a credit card into eBay's checkout might help, though it sounds like you have tried that already. Also worth trying to pay using a bank account tied to a PayPal account or a cash balance in a PayPal account, if possible.

Problems with PayPal involving minimum payments -- notably when total transaction is less than a dollar. In some cases, adding a donation or combining items may raise the cost above the minimum amount necessary.

Network issue -- problems that cause an "Access Denied" error message are often caused by a network blockage of one kind or another. As a temporary workaround, try completing checkout using a laptop or phone when not connected to the usual wifi network. Try checking out without using a VPN.

Site issue -- try checking out using ebay.ca or ebay.co.uk. If you have already committed to purchase an item, be sure to go through your Purchase History page to avoid making multiple commitments to purchase the same item on different sites.

If you are buying from multiple sellers, try to purchase from each seller individually in case a problem with one seller is holding up the transaction.

I've had the same problem a few times. It says, "Sorry we couldn't complete your request, try again later."

One person claims there was an error on the website. "i have now found the fault in the html code but there is no contact number".

Ok, I just got it again.

This is the exact message, "Sorry, we can't process your payment. Please try again, or select a different payment option."

I notice that the paypal option is greyed out and that the seller is located in Russia. Could this be the reason why my credit card is getting rejected?

Re: Unable to checkout - getting "We ran into a problem. Please try again."

Hi,

I am also facing the same issue since 9th February. I contacted eBay, PayPal as well as my bank. Paypal and my bank both did a thorough review and said that there is no problem from their side. Notably, PayPal as well as card payments are working normally everywhere else. It is only on eBay that the payment is not going through. The problem lies with eBay. They have made some technical changes due to their managed payments. Try purchasing something from a seller with managed payments i.e. those also offering Google pay and Apple pay as payment options and chances are the payment will go through. This seems to be an eBay thing and eBay is not helping. To top it up, sharing of PayPal address is not allowed to make payment to the seller or for the seller to send invoice on PayPal. So you can see the listing but you can't purchase the item. Good job eBay!

Re: Unable to checkout - getting "We ran into a problem. Please try again."

I received a suggestion from eBay to remove the CC and use PayPal. Of course - I did NOT have a CC and used only PayPal, so that is not a solution.

Informed eBay and they admitted it is a glitch on their side.

Problem STILL unresolved!

Re: Unable to checkout - getting "We ran into a problem. Please try again."

I tried unlinking my paypal account from my ebay account at "My eBay > Account > PayPal Account".

I also removed my credit card from paypal's website.

I removed the credit card from eBay at "My eBay > Account > Payments".

I re-added the credit card, and today I was able to buy an item on ebay. Maybe this will work for you. I'm not sure.

I also contacted paypal through a chat window, and the representative said I had to wait 24-48 hours for the account to be unblocked or something. I'm not sure why paypal was locked in the first place.

Re: Unable to checkout - getting "We ran into a problem. Please try again."

Can you please provide the link of the item you managed to buy successfully? I want to confirm whether the seller you bought from was enrolled in managed payments because there lies the root of the problem. Thanks!

Re: Unable to checkout - getting "We ran into a problem. Please try again."

Thanks for providing the link. Yes, your transaction was successful because the seller was enrolled in eBay's managed payments. As one can see, sellers enrolled in managed payments also provide Google pay and Apple pay as payment options. Most of the sellers are not enrolled and we, the buyers, won't be able to buy from them. eBay is not helping. It's such a shame that a platform built to bring sellers and buyers at one place is not interested in resolving the issues faced by buyers.

@elvgonz_94

The thread you are responding to is from February.

Does your seller ship to Mexico? If not, the seller may not accept payment from Mexico either.

Re: Unable to checkout - getting "We ran into a problem. Please try again."

It's on Ebay's end with their checkout. After wasting 2 days on different computers and the app and getting zero help from their chat service. I decided to click buy it now instead of using checkout and it worked just fine. Super frustrating when your trying to buy 3+ items from the same seller.
