Tinkering with the watch list?

Earlier I went to check something in my watch list and instead of the usual vertical linear listings, I was presented with a horizontal scroll of a few images with a short title underneath with arrows (< or >) to move back and forth. I refreshed and it went back to normal. I hope eBay isn't also messing with that along with everything else that might be negatively impacting sales. I just checked it again and it's still "normal," thank goodness.

As it is, I'll buy less if they make the feedback changes widespread because the new format actually bothers my eyes and it's harder to get a quick impression of the seller's performance.  And I do pay attention to feedback (on my buying ID).

So I'm hoping the watch list format won't change. I'd hate to have to move through it with arrows instead of just glancing up or down my list.

TBH, and not to sound dismissive in regard to your issue, it really sounds like a hiccup with your machine.

If it happens again, maybe it would be helpful to take a screenshot/snippet and post it here on the Technical Issues board again for others to take a look at.

Re: Tinkering with the watch list?

I had that happen to me on one of my computers. I was in a bad mood about the site issues so I called support. They had no idea what was going on and filed a ticket. I just assumed they were wasting more time on site changes instead of fixing existing issues lol.

I didn't post this in the technical issues board, it was moved from selling and not deleted as requested.

I often find things like this, where something is different then reverts back to "normal" later. It seemed like this might have been the start of a change, much like feedback where some eBay feedback has changed and looks one way, and other feedback appears the "normal" way.

Not to sound negative, but that's usually my thought too 🙂

@packratville

I don't know anything about that . . . I came to this thread from the Technical Issues board, where I think it probably makes sense to have it posted. As for deleting it, I think it's a legitimate post to have out there, in case others run into the same thing. I appreciate your posting it.

That's seems like a description of the usual eBay rollout of new page designs--and the feedback page is a perfect example. Some members have a new design (which I absolutely do not like for reasons more appropriately discussed on a separate thread) and some still have the old layout.

If it happens again, snap a quick screenshot and post it. I'd love to catch a glimpse of the new design, if that's what it is.

Again, thanks for posting about your experience.

Very possibly in the testing mode to change it to display that way.

Many websites display things in that manner. (scroll across)  I get that at Lowe's, and Home Depot all the time.

Recently viewed is set up that way here.

Just one more IT developmental improvement change that is not needed rather than concentrating of fixing the things that do not function as they should.

The watch list is bad enough now, as even at 90% I only see 2 items at a time without scrolling. More wasted screen space with each change that the make.

Re: Tinkering with the watch list?

Many changes made are a gigantic waste.

The improvements newly developed pages just result in gigantic waste of space, and massive increases in unnecessary scrolling, and clicking from page to page.

As in the case of a "watched item".  I have already looked at it. I just need a small reminder display in case I want to check it out again, not a 1/3 to 1/2 page display to get my attention. If I want to look again I can click on a small display to review the listing.

I am on a PC with a 21" monitor, and it is discouraging. My poor mouse is exhausted from all the scrolling, and clicking. Begging for some cheese, and a nap:) How do these things show on a "mobile device"?  So user unfriendly.

Example:  at 90%

@eleanor*rigby

Thank you, I do appreciate your comments and input. I'm just not familiar with the technical issues board other than I assumed it to be more as a place to post something like website issues - server down, pages not loading right, etc., and not possible deliberate changes in functionality. I'll need to visit here and get a better idea of its function. The mod at selling transferred my post here.

If I encounter that scrolling watch list again, I'll be sure to capture a screen shot and post here before I back out of it.

I'm probably getting a bit cranky with all the changes being made that appear to be affecting sales based on what I'm experiencing and reading elsewhere. I don't understand the purpose of using resources to change things that functioned well (feedback page) when so many actual problems exist. So when something like the watch list changes, I'm thinking here we go again.

Thank you again.

Which ad blocker are you using?

That white space at the top of your Watch List page might be the result of your ad blocker removing an ad but not reclaiming the space completely. You should be able to use an element hiding or ad blocking rule to remove that white space. If you spend a lot of time looking at your Watch List, it might be worth trying to customize it so you can get the most out of it without unnecessary scrolling.

I gave up on the Watch List page a long time ago; I prefer using the old "All Lists" page -- though I have customized it by removing the big blue defunct "Collections" banner using ad blocking rules, and my wife provided me with a custom CSS script to crop the item thumbnails so I can see more items per page (at least in Firefox). Prior to that I played around with using custom zoom extensions that allowed separate zoom levels for text and images.

Using the Summary page to view your Watch List items is also an option.

Thanks for the explanation of that wasted space.  My feeble old mind had not considered it.  I will just deal with the space rather than trying to customize my ad blocker.  My watch list is mainly for my shipping supplies. Like a "quick find" aid to a product. Don't buy/watch much other than that.

I use the "summary", and "all selling" a bit, but have given in to using the "sellers hub" since the forced GTC where I have added OOS option.  (no OOS #'s display on the "all selling")

Re: Tinkering with the watch list?

@eleanor*rigby

Okay, right after posting I tried my watch list again and this is what I saw. It could be that it's been this way for a while and I just hadn't noticed until recently. The screen shot shows what I get when I first select "Watch List." Sorry for all the "redactions."

It requires extra steps now to either select "View all items you are watching" or go to the end of the scroll using the faint hard-to-see arrows (< / >) to see everything. Then viewing all is as annoying as looking at the new feedback format, harder to see what's there at a glance without scrolling and the layout actually bothers my eyes. And as a rule, I dislike features like that where I have to have the mouse pointer just right or I lose the dropdown. I've forgotten over the years what that function is called. I always avoided it in my websites.

Re: Tinkering with the watch list?

@buyselljack2016

I will just deal with the space rather than trying to customize my ad blocker.

For a relatively straightforward element, removing that white space might be as simple as clicking on the ad blocker icon in your address bar, choosing "block an ad on this page" (Ad Block) or "Block element" (Ad Block Plus), hovering the cursor over the element you want to remove or block to highlight it, and then selecting it. If you realize that you have blocked something important, there is typically an undo function to remove blocks in a domain, or you can pause ad blocking and reload the page to reveal the blocked elements.

Ad blockers are actually very powerful tools, and once you start using them to customize your pages, you find many elements besides ads that can be removed. I use them extensively on the Community pages to remove unnecessary headers, menus and sidebars.
