I tried reporting a seller for fraudulent listing of items, listing Blu-ray movies as 'Brand New' but also states below that they opened them and removed the Digital Code included. So it is NO LONGER Brand New factory sealed! Plus, how do we know it was never used, IT'S BEEN OPENED!? AND an included item was removed, so it should be listed as 'Like New'... Am I wrong??
I get a response from eBay saying; "We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made using automation or artificial intelligence."
Is this a Joke?? HOW is it not a violation to list something as Brand New that's been opened and a piece removed?

What reason did you select when reporting the listing?
Sometimes changing the reason will change the outcome.

Well now you know that their AI is artificially intelligent. Their AI also removes listings for violations when there are none.
I get that it is frustrating to see that kind of stuff going on but I think that seller will take care of themself by listing used items as brand new. The eventual returns for said items will catch up to them sooner or later.

Report category: Listing practices.
Reason for report: Search and browse manipulation.
Detailed Reason: Incorrect item condition.
Those are the closest I found to describe the situation. I'll add that if a PERSON reviewed my submission, might have had a different outcome?!

If a 'person' were to 'review' they would have to hire 1,000,000 new employees. Site has almost 2 Billion listings- just too big to EVER have a 'person' look.

Wow, that wasn't helpful at all lol. All I said was IF a person reviewed it, not 'They need to hire 1,000,000 people to start reviewing these'... Just an observation.

Yes- you said 'if' and I responded why that is not feasable/possible.
This forum is NOT just for you- others read as well and they should see the 'reason' why something cannot happen.

Suppose eBay has just 100,000 reported listings per day, the chances of someone reviewing your report would be significantly less than zero. They have to use AI, no other way to tackle the reports.
If enough different members reported the same listing, AI might take it down, hard to say.

Pose a new question to ebay
The item received did not match the description.

This is so true. People think that there is a human element behind the scenes that can immediately manipulate outcome and yield immediate results, without realizing the actual work involved. AI is here to stay, and it will take time to improve, we just have to accept it and learn the workarounds of its limitations.

The act of selling used/refurbished/returned goods on Ebay as Brand New is a problem and will continue to be a problem. As far as Ebay not putting much effort into policing it has little to do with manpower.
It is a large revenue stream and i don't think they want to upset the applecart. IMHO

It's the fact that runs these answers (and has WELL BEFORE AI was a 'thing'...on this site) so 'reporting' will ONLY get attention if someone has listed
Drugs (prescription or illegal)
Tobacco
Other 'banned' type items (Black Americana, Nazi, Animal stuff etc.)
But the AI system will probably NEVER be able to
Read a Description and compare it to the way someone 'lists' something (new vs used etc.)
If the 'reporting' required MORE than 1 thing- it will stay as is.

You would get more attention from both eBay and the seller if you were the buyer of this incorrectly listed item and opened a Not As Described return request.
