Same computer. Two different accounts. Can't log in!!

I have a sister staying with me now and we both have Seller accounts on Ebay. She tries to log in on my computer to check her listings but always gets a message: OOPS not a match. She is entering her info correctly though. I have cleared my cookies, unchecked Stay Signed IN, had her use three different browsers, and still cannot get logged on.  We used to be able to do this. What the heck is going on? Two different people should be able to use one computer to do their Ebay account.

Her account is fine. She can access with her phone app but prefers to use a computer to do anything on her listings.

Have you verified her ability to log into her account from some other computer since this problem started? (Not an app on her phone, but a computer via the website in a browser).

Until you do, I don't think you can assume that this has anything to do with two people on one computer.   It could just be her account on any computer.

OK. Yes my sister can log in to her account on her phone but chooses to work on listings on a computer. So, I have a friend who asked me to help her sign in to her well established Ebay account. She is getting that stinking OOPS message with her password as well. Ebay has had this problem in the past so i think they need to work on iwhy passwords are being rejected. I cleared cookies, cleared cache, used FOUR different browsers, and still the OOPS message comes up with a correct password and user name. There is nothing wrong on my end; I am not computer illiterate! Ebay needs to fix the problem soon.

Do a scan use anti viral software etc (on safe mode command prompt as well if necessary).

Re: Same computer. Two different accounts. Can't log in!!

There is not a problem with any account. Yesterday, my friend and neighbor asked me to help her get on her Ebay account so she can list something. I went over to help her and put her username and password in, and guess what? We got the OOPS message and so now she also cannot get passed that message. That's why I am convinced this is an Ebay issue. This has happened in the past with Ebay. I googled the problem and this same issue came up back in  2015 and 2018. Doubters should sign out of your account then see if you have a problem getting back in and can also go to your MY EBAY, etc.

As I said before, I have 8 accounts and log in and out of multiple accounts daily with no issues whatsoever.

I know this will sound far-fetched, but does she have an apostrophe in her name or password? Apple devices convert apostrophes into "smart quotes" on the fly, chaging the ascii code of what was typed.

@ukfan9

I do not doubt the existence of a problem for some users, but I suspect that you have not tried everything possible to get around it. Deciding that "this is an Ebay issue" seems like an excuse to stop trying. Unless the problem affects a large fraction of the total users, eBay is unlikely to fix it for you any time soon. And any changes to the code of the sign-in page are likely to cause new problems for other users.

Try a private or incognito browser window, then try all three of the sign-in links in my previous post in that private or incognito browser window. If one of those works for you, try deleting your eBay cookies in your browser, and then try that same sign-in link in a regular browser window.

Try signing in with username and password. Try signing in with email address and password. Try signing in with Facebook or Google if you have previously done so.

If that does not help, try downloading a completely new browser -- one that you have never used before. If you are using Chrome or Firefox, try Opera, Brave, Waterfox, Pale Moon, or Avast Secure Browser instead. That should give you a clean slate to start with. Then try each of those three sign-in links there.

If something works for you, mention it in a follow up so that others can try it.

Re: Same computer. Two different accounts. Can't log in!!

Same problem, noticed it yesterday. I had to fiddle with it. I signed our of one, and it would sign me back into the same ID instead of changing. I went and turned off automatically keep me signed in, cleared cache, signed in manually instead of using my saved info and whatever I did worked. It is clearly not on my end. Tried it on a laptop where I was not already signed in and had no problem. I will check to see if it is still doing it.

Re: Same computer. Two different accounts. Can't log in!!

Just a general response.

Reports and comments in other off site ebay discussions are reporting this issue as well.  Speculation is that the issue is due to the new "multi user access" program that went into effect.  Programming issues per usual.

Re: Same computer. Two different accounts. Can't log in!!

I wonder if this has to do with the new sign in screen we're seeing today.

Especially as it now shows the last user ID used and a "switch accounts" link.

That is what it sounds like from what others are describing.  The "switch accounts" is not functioning properly. Clearing cache/cookies does not help.

@ittybitnot

When you are signed out your username is stored in your eBay cookie -- try deleting that cookie specifically.

Clearing all of your cookies is not necessary; in some cases it may not be sufficient if the default behavior is to clear cookies for only the "last hour" rather than "all time", as Chrome seems be set up currently.

Opening up a private or incognito browser window should bypass your current cookies and allow you to sign in to any account. Go to ebay.com and check in the upper left corner of the page and you should see a "Hi! sign in or register" message that indicates you are not signed it at all.

Hi @ukfan9, though we have received some other reports from the Community regarding switching between accounts, those reports do not match what you are experiencing. The details you have shared align with what would happen if the wrong login information is being provided. I recommend having your sister reset her password and try logging in again - if you are still having issues, please share screenshots of every step you she is taking so I can get this reported.

Re: Same computer. Two different accounts. Can't log in!!

Thanks but no apostrophe. A simple sign in that has been used for years so no mistakes are being made with signing in. Glad you are not having a problem, but others are. The password is being rejected with an OOPS That's not a match message. And the fact that my neighbor is now having the same problem is not a coincidence.

Re: Same computer. Two different accounts. Can't log in!!

So there is a problem if we have to try all kinds of things to sign in. Private or incognito browsers shouldn't have to be. It shouldn't be that complicated to sign in to Ebay. I would like it to get fixed soon.
