Relist Date BUG in search results by Time, Newly Listed

Relisting tool has a DATE bug in search results

I just came across this bug this week, but it has been around since at least Aug., 2020.

When I sell an item that has another to sell, I use the sold item to RELIST the item I want to.

Unfortunately, the eBay Bug gives the new listing a date associated with a sold item that could be 2 year ago.

That means if somebody searches for that item AND they choose the sort of "Time: Newly Listed", my newly listed item 15th in the result instead of 1st. It has a date of Aug. 20 (2020) instead of April, 30, 2022.

I have found this relist date bug also affects how items are display in an eBay Store.

Stranger yet, if you go to an eBay Seller's list of item for a seller (not their store), the correct day is used. [View a seller's item for sell. Again not their store]

Like I said, this relist date bug has been around at least since 2020. I have called into eBay customer support, but unfortunately, this is a complicated bug; so I'm not sure what will be lost in translation when they deal with the tech team.

What I hope is that other people will confirm the bug and call in to report it.

Easy way to verify the bug:
1.) at the main search field search "Buffy 8 40"
2.) make sure the results are sorted by Time: Newly Listed
2.) search the results for "imapaqrat"
3.) make a note of the ImaPaqRat item's date / time
4.) my item 134101999711 was actually started Apr 30, 2022 04:11:24 PDT
5.) my item 133952489617 was actually started Dec 02, 2021 17:33:16 PST

If you are a seller that RELISTS items, you can check you own items and when you open the item, it shows you the Start Time.

Re: Relist Date BUG in search results by Time, Newly Listed

I spoke to a supervisor who agreed this isn't right. I have multiple stores on eBay and it is happening on all of them. She agreed & was to look into it but it has been a few weeks and crickets.

Problem is in order to be on page one you have to hit the sell similar and change a word in the title or price just something to trick eBay's computer to think it is a new item.

This is very time consuming and not worth having a store since you could not possibly use all the listings you are paying for each month.

Also what is the point for eBay to have the batch relisting? No way am I relisting my item that had an original list date from Sept of 2021 since that item will show up on page 60 or more and no one is paging thru that many when they look for something.   I recently relisted one to get it on page one and it sold immediately so my sales are down all due to this glitch. It effects your performance figures and to no fault of your own.

Maybe this is to get us all to use preferred so that eBay gets more $$ ? Seems I am getting a lot of messages lately promoting it to sellers.

FIX IT EBAY!

Re: Relist Date BUG in search results by Time, Newly Listed

I noticed something that I think is related to this @imapaqrat and jasmen@ebay.

When you use the "newly listed" featured listing row on the top of your eBay store, anything that was relisted does not appear in that row. If your listing ends because you sold out, then you restock the item and use relist to alert any watchers, the listing isn't considered new.

Re: Relist Date BUG in search results by Time, Newly Listed

Thank you for this post!    I too had not had this issue until recently.    For me it exists on almost all relisted items.

Item sold, relist because I had an exact duplicate - old date is used for list date.

Item sold, relist, change title, change price, change description, change photos - old date is used for list date.

Item not sold, relist - old date is used for list date.

Item not sold, relist, change title, change price, change description, change photos - old date is used for list date.

Every once in awhile a relist will work and provide the new list date and show up top in New Listing search results .   Thinking I found the magic formula, I use relist on THAT relist - no go, old date used.

Note:  Sell Similar has same results as relist.

I've been using relist for years.    How eBay has decided which old list date to use is also a mystery.

Very frustrating to have your items display the New Listing banner but be sorted based on the whatever date eBay has decided is the list date.    And yes, the search results are sorted by New Listing - it doesn't matter if search results are in it List View or Galley view.

Re: Relist Date BUG in search results by Time, Newly Listed

I believe this is all somehow tied to the new "30 Day" Views window.  Not sure why the Views in the last 30 days would affect it, but it happened around the same time I think.

I am curious, why they couldn't have just added a new column for "30 Day" views and also show total views.

Re: Relist Date BUG in search results by Time, Newly Listed

Completely agree - this is a bug and it is throwing off not only my selling, but also my purchasing/searching.  I also search by newly listed and can see very plainly that things are not as they should be in the categories I research.

When you relist an item, it's not a new listing.

Re: Relist Date BUG in search results by Time, Newly Listed

For the last 20+ years, when you relisted an item, the listing date was the relist date.  It was only a month or so ago that something changed about how relisted items are sorted.

If somebody sales and item, then relists it with New Photos, new title, new description, different price . . . that seems to me like it is a New Listing.

eBay has already acknowledged that this is not how search sorted by newest first should work.  They've acknowledged it, but done nothing to fix it.

I have already spent way too much time trying to persuade them to fix this. Until it is fixed, I will just be buying less and selling less.  Lose Lose . . . which is what eBay seems to like.

Thanks for the tag @wastingtime101 from my understanding it is working as designed. I'll reach out to get more details, as soon as I do I'll keep  you guys updated!

Since jasmen@ebay is leaving, can you follow up on this devon@ebay? It's been about a month so an update on this would be appreciated.

As you can see when you read through this thread, we're getting mixed answers from CS with most reps saying it's a glitch, contradicting Jasmen's previous advise that it's by design. It started circa April 28th so if it is by design, then it's a big change from how things have worked for years.

This discussion on the eBay Canada board should also be updated when you get some info on this.

Hey @wastingtime101! Thank you for the tag on this and it looks like this is a site issue that has been reported on our end and can be seen here on the technical issues board. You can use this ticket number when you reach out to customer service to have your account added to it for resolution.

Re: Relist Date BUG in search results by Time, Newly Listed

So here are my questions:

Buyers HATE the sort date bug!  Sellers HATE the sort date bug! Trolls on the eBay Community thread, don't get a vote!

The functionality definitely changed in late April.

So, WHY wouldn't eBay put the functionality back to where it had been for decades?

Buyers & Sellers HATE the sort date bug, aren't they your customer base eBay?

Who at eBay believes that their opinion (eBay employees) is more important than the customer's opinion?

It is just pitiful that almost 2 months later, the simple task of changing which field sort results are sorted by, has not been fixed.  As a programmer myself, I can tell you that would be about a 30 minute task.

I am buying less, which means sellers are selling less.  Good Job eBay!

Re: Relist Date BUG in search results by Time, Newly Listed

Thanks for confirming that, Devon, and for adding the ticket info to the pinned post. It looks like it took a month for enough users to report it and for eBay to finally convert it to a formal ticket.

Anybody experiencing this should contact CS. The more people added to the same ticket, the higher priority the problem will get in the fix queue.

Relisted items showing incorrect listed date (May 30, 2022)
Reference ID: ALERT13827

This issue affects every buyer and seller negatively. I hope eBay is putting a high enough priority on the issue so it get resolved quickly.

IMHO Simple ROI Calculation: Affects ALL buyers & Sellers / Simple code fix (Change Sort field. The actual relist date is available, since it shows up when you open an item.)

Re: Relist Date BUG in search results by Time, Newly Listed

Hello, That also happens to me when the item relists on its own the start date is when the item was originally listed and then it is way down on the search engine when you click newly listed.

Yep!  2 months and eBay can't fix a simple sort field error.  eBay SUCKS when it comes to fixing their own problems.
