Refund Help

On 2-22-2024 I purchased an RV on ebay motors. I paid through Apple gift cards. 1,200 dollars. I also was asked to make an 800.00 payment (refundable,) for 5 days of insurance.  The RV was now on hold until I made the 800.00 insurance payment. At this point I changed my mind . I called the  number provided to seek a refund, but the numbers I was given were and ARE non responsive. The numbers are as follows: +*** and eBay support Department ***. Nether of these numbers connect for me any more. I need your help, and if I have reached the wrong department, please, PLEASE, redirect me to someone who can help. My ebay Motors Buyers protection Order ID# 691000157628. Please help!

If you did not find the motorhome on eBay, it is a scam that says eBay is handling the sale, eBay is not. If the seller asked for payment with gift cards, that is not how eBay works. Stop now before you lose any more money. There is no way to get those funds back.

If you did find the motorhome on eBay, what is the listing number? The number you posted does not mean anything to us.

If it was found on another site, there is nothing eBay can help you with, they have no control over listings found on other sites.

We are other buyers and sellers not eBay employees.

Sorry but there is no motorhome, this is an old scam. Please report the listing to the site you found it on.

Read this very carefully:  Where exactly did you find the listing for a motor home?

If it was on eBay, please give us the item number.  The numbers you've posted here appear to be phone numbers.

Unless you did find it listed on eBay, and can come up with an item number, it would appear that you have been scammed.

You found this vehicle on FB Marketplace, Craig's List or some other site, not eBay.

You were fed a sob story, dead husband's vehicle, flight attendant who has no time for the car, soldier being deployed. The price, incidentally, was ridiculously low.

You were told the transaction would go through eBay for your protection.  The seller will ship it to you at his own expense for a trial period of 7-10 days.  If you decide you don't want it, you just contact the seller and he will have it picked up.  How am I doing so far?

All you need to do is buy those cards and give him the numbers.  He promises the cards won't be redeemed until/unless you are satisfied with the car.

The bad news is this:  He's already redeemed those cards and has vanished, just to start over offering a nonexistent vehicle to the next person.  Gift cards are nontraceable and nonrefundable.  You can report him to the site where you found the car.

You've gotten yourself involved in a scam, by all accounts.   As soh.maryl points out, you're money is long gone, there never was an RV for $1200.00.  We get posts like yours' on an almost daily basis.... The "ebay support department" number is bogus also.  And $800.00 for a 5 day insurance policy?  On a $1200.00 sale?

Did you originally find this "RV" on Facebook Marketplace, or Craig's List, or some other site -- other than eBay?

Then you are another victim of fraud -- this was not an authentic eBay item.

Think about this:  If you see a great deal at WalMart, does a WalMart employee then send you to complete the transaction at Target?

Of course not -- that's not how WalMart works -- and that's not how eBay works, either.

Because eBay has its own site -- it doesn't need to advertise on Facebook Marketplace, or Craig's List, or any other site.

And gift cards can not be traced -- once you gave the "seller" those Apple gift card numbers, those funds were probably promptly cashed in.

And the phone numbers which you were provided were phony, as well.

File a report with Facebook, or Craig's List, or wherever you originally found the item -- and deduct your "loss due to theft" on next year's taxes.

Sorry we can't be of more help -- but these thefts that begin on other sites are happening every day.

And none of them have their origin on eBay.

Huge scam...your money is gone, untraceable and not refundable .. no real seller of an RV or car would ever ask for payment with gift cards.

Why would eBay allow Apple gift cards as a payment method? They wouldn't, just like Walmart won't let you pay for a purchase with an Amazon gift card.

eBay doesn't have warehouses where they store items for sellers and they don't deliver items for sellers.

Nobody who is legitimately selling a vehicle is going to allow potential buyers to hold the vehicle for a few days, the potential risks (i.e. accident, theft, etc.) is too high.

Used vehicle sales require a title transfer to be legal, how (if at all) did the "seller" claim this part of the transaction would be carried out?
