Problem listing with variations

Major issue: Opened draft and was unable to revise the listing. All items are in the bulk list, but none appear when I click on "edit". When attempting to list the item I receive error "It looks like there's a problem with this listing. Card Number is not allowed as a variation specific".

This may be related to installing Google Chrome upgrade, but I don't know.

Please help.

Mike

Re: Problem listing with variations

You probably need to change the name of your variation specific attribute.  Chances are, "Card Number" is a required or possibly recommended item specific and the same name cannot be used as a variation specific, too.

eBay started not allowing this earlier this year.  See info here:  https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/listing-and-marketing/item-specifics.html#multiple-variation-li...

Re: Problem listing with variations

eBay has changed some item-specifics around. If you are using a custom named "Card Number" variation-specific, this now causes a conflict.

See here for some additional info:

Re: Problem listing with variations

Yep, the listing fields related to variations are very much broken.

Re: Problem listing with variations

Any new resolution on this issue? I also can't edit my variation listings. I've had a service request ticket for more than a month but nothing seems to be getting done.

@nygiants20

Item specifics used to filter search results are no longer allowed as variation attributes. You'll have to add your own attributes, then input all the information again as if it was a brand new listing.

No, eBay didn't tell anybody about this or provide any type of guidance on how to address it. Yes, it will take a very long time and it's super frustrating. However, in the few weeks I've spent repetitively typing this info back into my variations, I've found a few ways to make this process slightly less excruciating.

*Before you edit anything in your variation listing, select 'Sell similar', and save it as a draft.

*The easiest way to go from here is to create a split screen - open the listing on one side and the draft on the other

*Draft: select [Variations>Edit] (only once)

*Listing: select [Variations > Edit], [Attributes and options you've selected > Edit], [Add your own Attribute]

From there, you'll now be able to copy and paste everything still in the draft over to your listing. I would actually recommend making 2 drafts before you start because if you happen to click on 'Edit' the second time, the draft will autosave and all the information will be gone if you try to go back (or hit cancel).

Re: Problem listing with variations

When you have the two listings open, are you changing anything in the draft before copying it to the listing?

Or are you just copying the same info from the draft to the listing?

I'm still not sure of what your recommending??

Thanks!

Re: Problem listing with variations

This is the second time this year Ebay has rendered custom names on variations useless. When I call support they can't suggest a name I could use. I tried Card # in the past Certification number, now I have been using Player name for about 6 months. Now they pushed some new software change where I can't update any of those variation listings. What reason do they have to do this and why won't they let us update our variations after we create a custom attribute. Why won't they allow us to rename our attribute without going and adding another 250 different variation names.

Re: Problem listing with variations

If the problem is that a variation name you have chosen has been since reserved by eBay for use as an attribute, see this thread for some possible ways around the issue:

Re: Problem listing with variations

Did you spend 10 minutes creating the options, uploading pictures for each option, entering quantity and pricing for each one?  Too bad that all gets deleted when you you change the name of the attribute.  So get ready to do ALL of that over again, then try to list it to see if your new Attribute name is acceptable or not.

What a joke.
