After I buy something I want to print the order.
Printer friendly page is NOT friendly: why is it also printing all the old "recently viewed items" in full color to run down my ink cartridge?

Are you sure you are looking at the actual Printer friendly page? If you see the "Printer friendly page" in the upper right corner of the Order Details page, try clicking on that link.
The actual Printer friendly page has no graphics other than the eBay logo.

If you are on the purchase history page and just right click and select print it will try to print your full purchase history. When I tried it this way my print preview was very similar to what you described . When I selected to view order details under the more actions drop down box. After the order details page loaded I right clicked and selected print. While only the 1 purchase came up in the print preview there was a lot of unnecessary color and detail from trying to print the current page on the screen. On the order details page I then clicked Printer friendly page and after that loaded I right clicked again and selected to print. The page came up the same even though the printer friendly page was loaded. I would suggest trying this. On the printer friendly page take a screen a shot. Then past it into a blank paint document. Then if you really want you can highlight the sales portion of the image and after you copy it past it into a 2nd paint document. Then print the document and then save or delete the files.

I was using ms edge as the browser. I just tested this using chrome as the browser. The order details page was cleaned up quite a bit and the printer friendly page was as the image on the screen and did not need a screen shot to clean up the image and print what was on the screen.

That is precisely where I am clicking! Once in a blue moon I will get a black print only copy. Thanks for the suggestion.

What browser are you using?
I have been using Firefox and saving pdf copies of all my receipts and I have not noticed any problems with the printer friendly versions of the individual order pages. Prior to responding I checked using another browser just to be sure my ad blocker was not responsible for the clean copy.

as you are using this for purchase history have you considered using the transaction records on PayPal's end? I found my most recent purchase on PayPal and after I went to view the details I clicked on their print details option and in the print preview it looked a lot better than eBay's. Plus it clearly beaks down the purchase price, tax, and shipping cost before totaling the order. This is something kind of lacking on eBay's end.

That is precisely where I am clicking!
If you still see the "Printer friendly Page" link, you are not on the Printer friendly Page -- you are still on the non-friendly order page. Like this:
Once I click on that link, here is what I see:
Note that the "Printer Friendly page" link has become the "Back to order details" link.
