I like eBay. It makes accessible products I wouldn't be able to find otherwise and it makes it possible to buy products without leaving my house. It provides a means for me to sell goods I no longer need. I've been registered since 2001 and have seen a lot of changes to eBay. Some of those changes clearly have been improvements, while the benefit of others may be questionable. Frequently, changes produce what appear to be unintended consequences, some of which are eventually corrected and some of which aren't. I've presented a partial list of flaws, bugs, and examples of employee ineptitude or indifference at eBay - some minor and some significant - that have affected its utility from my perspective in the recent past.
- While searching a variety of brands in a specific category, the category automatically changes to 'All Categories' each time I select a different brand, retrieving listings having nothing to do with products for which I'm searching.
- One open 'request' is visible at My eBaySummary while another is hidden.
- One 'Best Offer' is shown on summary page while another, still active, isn't.
- Positive feedback posted for me by a seller for two items bought a week apart and delivered a week apart is counted as one positive feedback, not two.
- While a parcel I've shipped to a buyer through the eBayinternational shipping service was en route to the buyer, eBay enabled the neophyte buyer (who misinterpreted delivery to the eBay transshipment center in Kentucky as an error) to open an 'item not received' case.
- Although the date of my registration at eBayis shown correctly with my ID, it's shown as occurring about five years later on the 'Community' page. My request to have the error corrected has been ignored.
- 'Add to Watchlist' sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
- 'View Relisted Item' has ceased to work.
- Listings that've ended routinely appear as active listings in my watchlist. Only when the listings are opened is it apparent they've ended.
- Listings that've ended sometimes remain embedded in the middle of my watchlist, not at the end of the list as they used to.
- Hijacked listings, appearing in hijacked accounts, appear almost daily at com. They're of the same items and, although reported to eBay.comdozens and dozens of times, eBay seems unable to promptly detect and stop them.
- If more than one item is ordered in a group from a single seller and items ship separately, then all will be shown as delivered even if only one has been.
- Shipping notifications are sometimes sent long after the products have been received.
- Although I've not sold anything in many years at one of my accounts, two of four DSR ratings, applicable only to sellers, are populated at that account.
