Packing Slips What happened

I like to print the packing slip and put it in package, seal the package, and then buy postage.  Apparently eBay has made some change which requires you to buy postage then go back and print a packing slip.  Very inconvenient as I have to go back to shipping room twice.  (printing and computer in different area).  What gives?  Anybody else have this issue?

You can still print a packing slip from the Hub Orders page without having to first purchase a shipping label.

https://www.ebay.com/sh/ord

Find the order and select "print packing slip and more" from the actions drop-down.

Packing Slips What happened

Yes I just had this happen for the first time tonight. We used to hand carry the packing slips to the shipping room which told them where the item was, how many the person bought and the destination its going to. When I went back to print the packing slip tonight it took up almost a full page ( it used to be 1/3 of the page). Now we are having to hand write the basic information to shipping guys.  May have to think about not including a packing slip...not my choice after 22 years of selling on Ebay.

It does not make sense when they ask you for the complete shipping weight info but you are unable to provide because you can’t seal up and tape packing and add packing slip till after you complete shipping label. They need to let you print packing slip before like it used to be.
This makes way for errors in a big way!

I just noticed this when I went to pack an order tonight. Isn't the whole point of a packing slip to help people know which items to pack up before you'd want to weigh and print a label? It really makes no sense why they would change this.

Yes I figured this out and it works. But it is still a 2-step process. You can’t print the packing slip from the Purchase Shipping page. Thanks.

I agree that it's counterintuitive to offer the option to print packing slips on the label page only after the label is purchased @joeysstuff999.

Depending on your sales volume, you may find it helpful to print packing slips in bulk all at once, then go forward with your normal label process. Could save you a lot of time and hassle.

To print packing slips in bulk, you would go to the seller hub orders page linked above. Then select all orders for which you want to print a packing slip. Then above the orders find the button that says shipping, click on it and select print packing slips and more.

The catch here is that you'll see only one packing slip if you attempt to print (this is a glitch the developers are aware of but have not yet fixed), however if you click the download link at the top instead of the print button, that will download a PDF which includes all packing slips. You can print them all in one shot from that downloaded doc.

Based on the numerous threads about this, I am sure kyle@ebay's team has taken notice and passed on feedback. The biggest concerns I've seen from sellers:

- The label page requires purchasing a label before purchasing a packing slip, which is disruptive to the packing process and in some cases sellers are saying they need to finish packing an item (with packing slip inside) before they can finalize weight and generate a label.

- The packing slip that was removed was very compact and the newer version is not compact. Despite the fact that sellers can shorten it by marking as a gift to remove pricing, remove comments and make other customizations, the packing slip is still very spacious. This is creating problems for sellers that:

        - Are used to printing 2 packing slips per sheet of paper

        - Have a lot of large orders, so what was a 2 page packing slip is now a 4 page packing slip that increases materials (paper/ink) and takes up more weight in their packages

        - The newer format does not translate to a 4x6 size like the old one did, so sellers that printed packing slips on their label printers can't do that anymore.

Why change what seemed to be working well with regard to access to a packing slip.  If it isn't broken, DON'T FIX IT!!

The old packing slips worked great for me. They were the perfect length and width to wrap around my little boxes. I will not use this new format and will figure out another way. It is a waste of paper & ink and will have to be folded several times to fit my packaging. Not to mention it does add just enough weight to my small packages to make a difference in cost.

@usa_vintage

A smaller/less info packing slip can be printed by using "pick list" option rather than "packing slip".

Also, I think I tried "labels in bulk", and got a small packing slip there.

Have no sale at the moment to check that out.

Neither small slip has the "shipper address"☹️

I should have said..........................  a smaller/less info packing slip can be printed by using "pick list" option at the "print packing slip and more" page.

The regular packing slip does @buyselljack2016. Ya just gotta hit that "customize" link then select "ship from name and address."

The pick list is just that - a pick list meant for pulling items to pack orders. It's not intended for the buyer, though you can use it as a packing slip if you want.

Some helpful fields you can customize on the regular packing slip:

"This is a gift!" - by checking that box it will remove all pricing from the slip and make it a little shorter.

"Return policy" - makes the slip longer, but not bad info to include if one wants. I've never used it, but I see the value.

"Note for buyer" - uncheck that to make the slip shorter. Check it to include a note. "Pick a thank you note" allows you to choose from about a dozen pre-written thank you messages. "A message for the buyer" allows you to free type whatever message you want up to 255 characters.

"Your store URL" adds your store URL to the top of the slip.

"Store QR code link" adds a QR code buyers can scan which takes them directly to your store.

There are other options, too - above is what I personally think are the most relevant.

There's also an "address label" option and if you select that it'll print an address label for the buyer. Useful for PWE shipments where sellers ship with a postage stamp and no tracking.

@wastingtime101  3, not 2.  I used the tiny packing slip & printed 3 per page.   I finally got this monstrosity down to 2 per page, but it's still huge & super inconvenient to my flow.

@buyselljack2016   I tried the Pick List, be aware that it prints your Custom Label field.  My Custom Label field has the price I paid for the item, so it's a no go for me.  Otherwise, it would have worked & been more comparable to the slip most everyone actually used.

I can't tell you how much I hate what they've done to this.  Took something that worked perfectly & made a complete mess of it 😞

Packing Slips What happened

I've been selling on eBay over 20 years also and this change has to be one of the worst changes they have ever made!  I use 1/2 sheet of paper to print every packing slip. I have a label printer for labels, so I just load my printer up with 1/2 sheets of paper for packing slips.  This means that now, if I want all the information that appears on the abbreviated packing slip, I have to use a full page, and pay twice as much money for paper.  It's just not making good sense to me.  I have complained every chance I get through their "how are we doing" or feedback links and maybe if enough people complain they will bring back a short and easy packing slip that we can easily find and use.  Who thinks of these great improvements???  Someone who doesn't sell on eBay I imagine.
