Oops that is not a match - the error is back

Interesting Ebay defect.

Using Ebay.ca, trying to login, I get the infamous login, enter user ID, redirected to captcha, and subsequently the "oops that is not a match error".

On the same laptop, I am able to login to any other Ebay domain, for example ebay.de, ebay.nl, it all works fine. Only when trying ebay.ca do I get the above issue. I have already cleaned the cache, cleaned up cookies, etc. and rebooted several times.

Try another browser. Or the eBay app.

Try an alternative link to sign in, particularly if you are using an old bookmark:

https://signin.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

https://www.ebay.ca/signin/

If you have previously linked a social media account to your eBay account, you may be able to sign in using an Apple, Facebook or Google account.

Unfortunately it did not resolve it. I have tried for example logging in from another laptop. I've also tried to use Edge instead of Chrome.  One of the issues is that Ebay has a very odd architecture, whilst most websites do their authentication server side, Ebay seems to work with a mix of old client side and server side processing which causes issues at times. The strangest thing at the moment is that it literally works with every domain accept for ".ca".

You can bypass the problem by signing in using the eBay app, or signing in using a linked social media account.

If you have not previously linked an Apple, Google or Facebook account to eBay, you can do so via the eBay app, then sign in via social media using a browser. Keep your social media account secure; anyone gaining access to the linked social media account can use it to gain access to your linked eBay account.

Re: Oops that is not a match - the error is back

I finally managed to figure out how to solve this.

1. I logged into Ebay using the ".com" domain where I was still able to sign in normally.

2. Next used the logout option.

3. I used software called privacy eraser to completely wipe all cookies.

4. Next I navigated to the ebay ".ca" domain and logged in.

That worked ok.

I have been getting the same error, every time. Oddly enough it works the second time I submit the same saved password. It almost seems like its an extra security measure to defend against hackers? I dont know but its weird.

I have heard similar complaints before; the first username/password consistently fails, but the second time it works.

I can think of a couple of possibilities that might cause that. Using an old bookmarked page might cause that problem if there is a problem with the bookmarked page. If the first failure results in being forwarded to a similar looking but actually differently implemented sign-in page, which works better. The solution in that case is to bookmark the second page rather than the first.

If there are two different sign in pages, one version may have a different saved password that needs to be updated. Or something about the first page -- a different implementation of code -- might lead to an error regardless of what password is entered.

Also, in some cases, if you attempt to sign in before the page has loaded completely, the sign in will fail.
