This is rapidly going from bad to worse. If I type a search query, I know what I want, and what I want is for it to be executed as typed. Not with some words removed, not with words replaced. Stet. If you are sure you must disenfranchise the average consumer by assuming they don't know what to type--Don't do it to experts. People who know what a search is and how to do it will come to hate you over time. I think you should make "My searches are literal" and "So me only exact results to my search" be options that I can set on my account.
But, NOW, typing an open paren or '(' character will trigger some algorithm (javascript) that rewrites my search query as I am typing it, even changing the primary search term. Parens are used for grouping search strings. (cats, dogs) will match both cats and dogs. Parens have meaning in your search query language! What is happening? Who decided that this should be the way it works?
Do I have to use the API to get search that works the way it is supposed to?
My best,
Eirikur
