Not sure if this is the case for you but seems Ebay may be putting a Beta out there for Messages on the App at least. My App goes back and forth. Usually the Inbox at the bottom is your messages. The Beta seems to be the Inbox is for notifications such as "Item ending" or "Item shipped". Then at the top right of screen(envelope) icon is for true Messages.
