I've deleted and reinstalled the app, but it didn't help. When I click on the messages icon I get a page that says "Something went wrong. please try again later" with a reload button that does nothing. I can access messages via a web browser, but need app access. Any ideas?

If the latest version of the eBay app is not allowing you to read messages, try using a browser instead.
Or another browser mode (mobile, classic or desktop).
Try another link.
https://mesg.ebay.com/mesgweb/ViewMessages/0
https://mesg.ebay.com/mesgweb/ViewMessages/0/m2m
Try accessing messages on ebay.ca:
https://mesg.ebay.ca/mesgweb/ViewMessages/0/All
If you have eBay messages forwarded to your email address, try reading and responding via email directly.

Which version of the app are you using @eclectic_outlet and are you still having the problem?
I couldn't replicate the issue on iOS 6.158.0.1 and I just updated to version 6.161.0 and do not see the issue there, either. Perhaps it was temporary - try again and let us know if it's working.

Still not working. Running iOS 16.7.7
App version 6.161.0
Logged out and back in and no change.
I can access messges via web browser, but not in app.

Try clearing your app cache and data, then sign back in and try again.
If that does not help, try uninstalling the app, restarting your device, then installing the latest version of the eBay app once more.

Update your OS @eclectic_outlet . When I tested yesterday I was on iOS 17.4.1 and have since updated to 17.5.1

I have an iphone 8, which cannot update to iOS 17. Just updated it to the latest version it can handle, 16.7.8 and reinstalled the app. Still can't access messages.

Ah, that stinks. iPhone 8 released in 2017 is considered "old" and does not get the same iOS support as more recent models. I'm sorry to tell you that you'll continue to experience issues with the app as time progresses (and probably with other apps, too).
One common thing to look out for when using older phones with outdated OS/app:
A lot of sellers report creating listings on the website, then using their phone to upload photos to their drafts and publish listings, but item prices they entered on their drafts from the website are altered when those drafts are opened in the app without them realizing before publishing. This is due to outdated app and/or outdated OS. Things get glitchy.

I do understand that eventually apps won't be expected to work properly on older operating systems. However 16 is not that old, and the ebay app requirements are for iOS 16 or later. If I click on a notification that i've recieved a message, then the message opens and I can reply. But if I click on the messages icon to get to all the messages I get the error. It was working fine until approx May 27.
I can access the messages page via a web browser, it's just the app that's not behaving. Frustrating

The only other thing I can suggest here is report it to eBay as a tech issue. With the app there is a shake to report feature. You literally physically shake your phone while the app is open and it will trigger a screen to report problems like this.

I didn't know about that, thanks for the tip and for trying to troubleshoot. I've reported the issue, maybe something will come of it. Cheers.

Just updated app to latest release, 6.162 and still no luck. I've reported the issue three times through the app and no response. 😞

After not working as usual this morning, just tried again and suddenly I'm able to access messages on the app! Oddly enough I had just submitted feedback on the "new messaging experience" on the desktop, calling attention to my plight. But it was literally a couple minutes prior, so that message probably wasn't even read yet. Anyway, thrilled to have access.
