I recently made a purchase on eBay and was attempting to leave the seller a positive GLOWING review. I wrote out my review, and when I went to submit it, I received a notice in "red" that leaving offensive language in feedback was not permitted. Here's the review I tried submitting:
"Great Seller! GREAT deal on these specific brake pads! Pads are exactly as described. Shipping was fast, STUPID fast to be precise! Haven't installed pads yet, but they are the right ones. No issues. Would DEFINITELY do business with seller again. A++++++++++!!!!!!!! Thank you"
Apparently, the eBay algorithm mistakes my writing "STUPID fast" as offensive words, because I had to change "Stupid fast" to "Ridiculously fast". Obviously, the way I wrote my original feedback was in a completely POSITIVE manner. People use the phrase "stupid" anything all the time in positive ways. There is NOTHING offensive about it. Your algorithm is what is STUPID and offensive. It is incapable of perceiving the nuance of language. Just another example of why AI nonsense does not work.

Are you sure its not the excessive use of punctuation, capitalization or improper use of grammar?
YMMV

Yup, a bit hard for AI to differentiate between the meanings of "stupid"
like "sick"
or someone being a "good sh__"

This is not really an AI issue. Certain words are just not permitted in feedback comments, regardless of context. Including certain words will prevent your comment from being accepted. This has been the case for many years.

True. I think 'crazy fast' would have been struck, too.

Hi, Try Super fast or maybe Very fast & lose the caps. Jus' Sayin' (J.B.)

It's not "our algorithm". We are not ebay, nor is anyone from ebay likely to read your post.
Ebay has censored feedback for quite some time now, as @eburtonlab points out.
Any word by itself that has a derogatory or offensive meaning is going to get flagged, that's just the way it is.
Context of use or connotation isn't part of ebay's language program.

Well, it's still ridiculous in my mind. Whether or not it's "your" algorithm isn't really the issue. I would have wrote to eBay directly to express my concern, but they've made it impossible, unless you have a very specific, narrow issue, which THEY define, within a list of concerns, any of which didn't lead me to any method to contact them. The point is that many words are used in many different contexts and just because someone uses a certain word, doesn't automatically mean it was used in a negative, or offensive, manner. It is an algorithm determining what is, or isn't, appropriate, and it's not always right. Wait until it becomes even more pervasive in society. I've said all I'm going to say about it. Just more ridiculousness in this world. I know I've left plenty of feedback in the past, and my writing style hasn't changed. Over and out. KMG365

Everyone posting on here volunteers their time trying to help people having problems on ebay, we're all buyers and sellers just like you are... we're not responsible for ebay's AI program, or anything else on this site.
We just try to explain the nuts and bolts.
I would guess it's going take a little while before AI learns to recognize millennial slang.
