Internet Explorer has stopped working

HAS TO BE eBay! I started having this problem a week or 2 ago. As a test I restored my system to over a month ago and no changes. Also, saw a question, How do you like our new page? layout?

This only happens when Logged in, also if you go to https://www.ebay.com/feed (or any other /??) it keeps working.

We shouldn't have to change/use different browser to access a company as big as eBay!

If you are using Internet Explorer 11 and having problems with the main eBay page hanging or causing Explorer to crash, try using another browser such as Chrome, Firefox or Opera instead, at least to reach eBay. If you can't use another browser, you can try bookmarking the eBay sitemap page and using that rather than going to the main eBay page (which is apparently causing problems for users of IE11 lately):

https://pages.ebay.com/sitemap.html

If signing in sends you back to the main page, close the tab and go back to the site map and use that to navigate to another eBay page.

Re: Internet Explorer has stopped working

I'm on Windows 8.1 & IE11. Various times had issues on Home page, Log-In page and then next home page when logged in but only ONE of these each time error occurs. When the error occurs I just acknowledge it and it reloads error free. Today, first attempt error occurred after log-in, the 3 attempt no issues. With me, it is random, same random effects for a week or so, although straight through without errors more frequent than it was. Surely in eBay's interest to resolve, if you can't get in not likely to place an order.

Well Greg, no one bothered to even answer you and it's likely the problem isn't being looked at either after a flipping MONTH. In the last 2 weeks my selling views/watchers are near non existent now and sales are going down in flames TOO. I had a single day where I could get on to eBay with Internet Explorer. No, I refuse to change browsers since I'm sure my older clients don't even know what a "browser" is. Not doing that will keep me on top of what they are experiencing. After you left, I tried doing my onw nudging with tech and no response. I hope that your vacation was wonderful and that you will keep bull dogging tech over this issue when you come home!!!

Re: Internet Explorer has stopped working

Have not been in Ebay for a few days. Today can get in although a couple of 'Not Responding' in 2/3 attempts at home page, acknowledge then get thru' login to main page OK . As soon as do search, results come up then IE freezes. Got in again, opened watch list, then freezes. Ebay only page causing issues, all of my other websites no issues. Firefox opens Ebay without issue. Even this community page freezes when trying to open. This is thru' Firefox.

Re: Internet Explorer has stopped working

Trinton from Ebay responded on another thread named: "EBAY ANNOUNCES THEY NO LONGER SUPPORT INTERNET EXPLORER..."

Trinton stated:   ...happy to clarify that we still support internet explorer, and the few reports we've seen on the Community of issues with the home page for IE users are not something we've been able to replicate on our end. It is likely that these problems are unrelated to eBay, and instead are due to a plugin/add on that may be involved." "...we are not receiving widespread reports and cannot recreate the issue you describe on our end."

I encourage everyone who is experiencing this problem post a picture and state what OS you are using.  Maybe now they'll fix the problem?

BTW:  I found that you must be logged into ebay for the error to occur on the homepage, it won't happen if not logged into an account - also seems to be happening to Windows 7 Internet Explorer 11 users.

Hope that Tech Support resolves this soon, as it's been almost 1 month!  I'll be escalating to eBay Leadership later this week if not resolved.

Re: Internet Explorer has stopped working

Today, had couple 'clean' &1 occasion od 'Not responding', acknowledged that & in OK, can, search, scroll etc. 10days had issue with computer, ended up with reinstall of Windows. That's when ebay froze after search results came up, like wise similar sites. For  3 mornings had a Windows Module Installer process running, this morning finally completed, now this & other sites do not freeze. The process is actually TIworker which installs & finalises Windows monthly Updates, with a full reset, numerous updates to tidy up as opposed to normal 4 per month.

Re: Internet Explorer has stopped working

I just started experiencing this today. Browsing and searching the site is fine, but when I sign in, and it brings me back to the home page - BAM! "Internet Explorer has stopped working".
I can't bid on anything if I can't do anything after signing in, ebay!
I will try the workarounds mentioned, but IE is my primary browser, and I DO NOT want to switch.

I think that if you can avoid the main page and avoid the sign in link (which leads back to the main page), you should be OK.

Rather than signing in by clicking on the "sign in" link, bookmark one of your account pages (such as your Watch List page) or the site map and let eBay prompt you to sign in when you go to an account page. That way, once you do sign in, it will send you directly to the page you were trying to reach, skipping the main page.

https://pages.ebay.com/sitemap.html

It may help to check your Account: Site Preferences, and make sure that you have the "Keep me signed in on this computer" checked down at the bottom of the page to minimize the number of sign-ins you have to do.

Alternatively, you could install another browser and use it just for eBay. No need to stop using IE 11 for other sites if you are happy with it.

I'm working on getting this resolved with eBay and the temporary work-around suggestions sometimes work, but I'm seeing more and more reports of problems across different browsers and also with mobile devices and the problem seems to be evolving.

The work-around that works for me (I'm using IE 11 on a Windows 7 PC) is to sign-in at another eBay page.  I just bookmarked a page via Google "Can't Login to eBay" (Community Boards page).  It's a reminder every day of the inept Tech Support team at eBay.  I open two pages simultaneously, sign-in on one (which now also gets the error with a redirect back to the Home Page), then I close that one quickly (you have to close the error pop-up, then the Home Page .... and quickly).  Then I'm signed in at the 2nd Community Boards page and I go to my Watched Items, to make sure that I'm fully logged-in.  After this I haven't noticed any other hang-up (related to signing in or moving around the site).  There are many other technical glitches within eBay to have fun with, once you can get in the back door!

Hi alan@ebay ,

By update, I meant from Tech Support (i.e. what they are doing to resolve, etc.).  One message a month later from Brian, saying he couldn't replicate the problem on a Windows 10 computer, but he saw a new problem on a Windows 7 computer, is not what I would call an update (but it does say there is a new problem to look at).

I do see updates from many users saying they are experiencing the Home Page error.

Below is Brian's message and my reply, which I would really appreciate getting a response to.

Thanks,

Greg

Hi @greg5000, while the Community team doesn't have specific numbers, the tech team has let us know that they haven't seen any changes to IE 11 usage that would cause concern.

I have a Windows 10 machine and cannot replicate an issue. However, I did go to a coworkers desk to test out IE 11 on their Windows 7 computer. While I am still not getting an error message, I did find that the eBay.com homepage isn't displaying properly when using IE 11 on Windows 7. The formatting is really off. I've taken my results and sent them to the tech team for further review.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brian,

Thanks for the follow-up!  Just wondering how the Tech Support Team can see any changes to IE 11 usage that would cause concern?  I'm using IE 11 with Windows 7 and had to sign-in using a back door.  Many users reporting the problem are also doing this daily (i.e. we're all experiencing the problem, but are logged in to our accounts with IE via a work-around).  Can the Tech Support Team see that customers are signing in from an eBay page that is not the Home Page?  Do they receive an error report when I receive an error at the Home Page?  If so, can you provide me an example of this?  Can you also provide some details as to how they are tracking?

Regarding the formatting issue you saw (with screenshot).  I'm not seeing this on my side and haven't seen anyone else reporting this.  Might be something new and exciting for the Tech Support Team to work on.  Maybe the System Design Team that caused all the problems can chat with the Teach Support Team, so they can resolve the bad code that was released in eBay's February and March updates?

Greg
